Governor's blindness now fodder for jokes, jabs
Critics take aim at embattled N.Y. governor's visual impairment

NEW YORK - New York Governor David Paterson, facing a tough battle to keep his job, has fallen so low in public opinion that even his visual impairment that once earned him respect is being held against him.

The legally blind Paterson, grappling with grim poll numbers and criticism for unsteady leadership, has become a target for late-night comedians, political detractors and, most recently, News Corp head Rupert Murdoch.

Paterson is "blind and can't read Braille and doesn't really know what's going on," Murdoch told a conference, in comments captured in a Wall Street Journal video and posted online this week. Murdoch later apologized.

2. Do we actually have evidence that Paterson can't read Braille?
The man has a college education. He'd have had to be able to absorb written communications by some means.

BTW, did Murdoch kick the crutch away from a crippled child on the way out of the conference? Or smash a kitten under his shoe?
Classy guy, the Rupester.

10. I don't think he can ready Braille, but he can...
read text if it's in large font and his face is about two inches from the print.

Here's a picture of him signing a bill.

5. Could've been worse.
He could have asked if Paterson actually KNEW his beard was shaved off.

13. This just makes me sick. How can anyone make fun of disabilities?
Makes my blood boil, and it's personal. I love someone that is legally blind.

14. They act like this is new. SNL has been mocking Patterson's blindness about a year.

16. That's disgusting.
As a disabled person I hate it when disabilities are used to mock someone.
