Ye Brainless Minions: Prepare to go forth and shop, shop, shop.......
Black Friday: Prepare for the Fight
By Mike Krumboltz, Y! Buzz

Attention, class. Here's a logic question for you: If it's true that everyone loves a deal, and Black Friday offers the best deals of the year, then is it safe to assume that folks will go into a state of high-grade hysteria the day after Thanksgiving? The answer is: duh, of course.

Though over a week away, Black Friday is already igniting the Search box. Shoppers have pushed up searches on "black friday 2009" and "black friday ads" to dizzying heights. One might think that retailers would keep the deals a secret until the big day, but nothing could be further from the truth.

In an effort to get spend-happy shoppers to their stores, retailers have "leaked" many of their most drool-worthy deals. Offers from Walmart, Best Buy, and Target are all garnering a ton of lookups. And, interestingly, many of the deals are quite similar.

CNN Money explains what shoppers can expect find at Walmart on November 27. According to sources, there will be HDTVs, laptops, toys, and Blu-ray players for the grabbing. Confirmed products include a 50-inch Sanyo 720p plasma TV for $598, a Magnavox Blu-ray player for $78, and a GPS from TomTom for $59. ..........(more)

1. I always shop on Black Friday
but it's at a huge crafts show that draws artists from all over the southwest.

What, you thought I'd be fighting crowds at a mall for soulless consumer garbage made in China?

2. Once again, I am making the majority of my christmas gifts.
I've made some very nice moisturizing cream. I've made soap and preserves and chutney. I've made scarfs and afghans and hats. I'm putting together some gift baskets with baskets purchased at yard sales. It's a lot more fun and far more creative.

4. Ya know
According to some here you are not helping the economy.
If the rich would hire folks we'd all have instant jobs.

3. I stay out of the stores pretty much from Thanksgiving till after New Years
except for the necessary grocery shopping. Don't like crowds in general and it's worse during the holidays. Sales be damned, the health of my nerves is more important.

5. In defense of the mania it is the one time a year everybody shops.
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 09:34 AM by Skink
I call them amateur shoppers cause they don't know where anything is. On a normal day 10 percent of Americans shop. During the season everybody shops causeing the huge crowds.

8. Such idiocy.
You know they'll have only a few of these spectacular deals in each store. Yet how many will head out, thinking they will be one of the lucky ones. I think it's a lot like the poor fools out in the burgs who defend the rich at the expense of themselves. They believe one day they will be one of the lucky few.

9. lady I work with swears by the day
. . . says she gets good deals and LOVES the excitement. Why is business for these stores supposed to be a bad thing? Sales have been flat and workers hours are suffering at my job.

13. I'd rather see small businesses doing lots of biz.
Edited on Thu Nov-19-09 10:49 AM by JNelson6563
But here in America we're more about talking about supporting small/local businesses. Let a small business not have the buying power of the big box stores and try to pay a decent wage to their workers and watch all those who pontificate about supporting small business go to the big corporate monstrosities. Then watch as the sackcloth and ashes when local downtowns and shops in surrounding areas wither and die.

15. so would I
. . . but to employees of those big-box stores, business is business. Losses for the big employers doesn't necessarily mean that there are small businesses ready to take their place. And lower prices translate into savings for the community.

10. Then when is the best time for me to get a HD TV and where
should I go ~

Is it better to go on line to order?

The picture tube in my 5 yr. old Sony is almost shot.

There are no replacements I was told by the Repair Service ~ $85 for an Evaluation Call. Then they always need to come back and service it ~ so we are talking about $200 for doing nothing.

11. at Best Buy
It's almost necessary to go on line anymore because the store is usually out of stock on sale items. You can still advantage yourself of the sale price online.
