Incest pornography found at home of key suspect in Mohler case
A search of the Independence home of the man at the center of Mohler child sex case turned up incest pornography, recording equipment and old tapes with hand-written titles.

Magazines with titles of “Family Taboo,” “Best of Family Secrets” and “Best of Family Touch” were found in a locked file cabinet in the home in the 1300 block of South Dodgion during a Nov. 11 search.

Burrell Mohler Sr., 77, is in jail in Lexington, Mo., after his arrest last week on allegations of a family child sex case that included rape, sodomy and bestiality. His four sons were also charged for a torrent of alleged sexual assaults in which the family victims were allegedly as young as 5 years old.

The sons are Burrell Mohler Jr., 53; David Mohler, 52; Jared Mohler, 48; and Roland Mohler, 47. A brother of Burrell Mohler Sr., Darrel Mohler, is also charged in the case.

Newly filed court affidavits say the search at Burrell Mohler Sr.’s house was conducted after his wife told investigators that Mohler kept incest pornography. Investigators said found those articles in the recovered magazines described sexual intercourse between family members. Fourteen VHS tapes, some with home-made titles, were found with recording equipment and sex toys. Several pistols, rifles and shotguns also were taken, as well as four computers.

The wife said she and her husband had lived on separate levels of the house since she found the pornography in a false ceiling in the basement.

2. When the story first broke,
I thought McMartin Pre School.

But now, I'm trying to digest the horror of the realities here.

6. They are your neighbors, your friends, your banker, your grocer....
I was molested by my grandfather who had also raped my Aunt (his stepdaughter) when she was young. He was much loved in the community, a farmer who handed a basket of goods to just about anyone who stopped by for a chat. My grandmother knew and said and did nothing. She slept in a separate room and endured. These people don't look like the monsters, they look like you and me and the devastation they wreak is,a lot of the time, unfixable.

7. People are so focused on 'stranger danger'
that they don't see the obvious or ignore it. You are much more likely to be injured in some way by somebody you know.

When I worked in a bookstore, people always wanted to know where the horror section was. I would point it out, and then I would tell them that if they wanted truly scary stories, they should look in true crime. That's where the tales and monsters that would keep you up at night are really located.

9. The most disturbing thing about this to me is that there is a market
big enough to support the publishing of magazines devoted to it.

11. This was an X-files episode! One of the more creepy and disturbing episodes, I would add.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_(The_X-Files)

"Home" follows the two agents in a small, otherwise peaceful town, the agents investigate the death of an infant with disturbing birth defects, and the trail leads to a clan of inbred, genetic mutants.

12. I hadn't heard of this case before.
I really wish I hadn't heard about it now, either.

Words fail.
