Grantee: Improved Solutions for Urban Systems
Location of Grant Activities: Dayton, Ohio
Amount: $100,000

Center, Home Builders Association of Dayton, Heapy Engineering, Ohio Valley
Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc., University of Dayton, Third

Montgomery County

Project Description: The project will enhance current training offered to YouthBuild
participants and Construction and Manufacturing Institute students in construction
trades to include energy efficiency, green building, green space management,
photovoltaics, and the installation and retrofitting of renewable energy systems. The
project expands the professional development opportunities for instructors related
to green jobs.

Proposed Outcomes: The applicant will develop a competency based
curriculum for green collar job training in energy efficient and renewable energy careers, and train
participants in one or more green collar areas leading to industry recognized
certifications and credentials. The project will also assist students in attaining high
school diplomas and place high school graduates in employment or continuing
education.

Alaska
Grantee: Cook Inlet Tribal Council, Inc.
Location of Grant Activities: Anchorage, Alaska
Amount: $67,268

Key Partnerships: Cook Inlet Housing Authority and Alaska Works Partnership
Project Description: The applicant will enhance its YouthBuild program by
providing 48 primarily Alaska Native or American Indian youth (16 to 24 years old)
who have not graduated high school or obtained a GED with additional energy efficient
building, construction, and retrofit industry training with a focus on home
weatherization. The program will provide participants with 40 hours of
weatherization specific training and 40 hours of hands on home weatherization skill
development, in addition to the existing YouthBuild program.

Proposed Outcomes: Proposed outcomes for the project include 48 participants
completing enhanced weatherization training curriculum. Expected performance
outcomes include 75% of participants completing high school or obtaining a GED
while in the program, 65% retaining employment for up to 3 months, 75% being
placed in jobs or training opportunities, and 100% participating and completing
workforce preparation.

Grantee: Arizona Women’s Education and Employment, Inc. (AWEE)
Location of Grant Activities: Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area
Amount: $100,000

Key Partnerships: The Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, The Arizona Green
Chamber of Commerce, The Greater Phoenix Economic Council, City of Phoenix
Workforce Investment Board (WIB), and Maricopa County Community College
District

Project Description: Arizona Women’s Education and Employment, Inc. (AWEE) is
building capacity to launch the Learning + Training + Earning = GREEN
(L+T+E=GREEN) Project designed to teach workers the skills required in green
industry employment. AWEE will integrate new curriculum, staff training,
equipment, and vocational training services to prepare eligible adult exoffenders
for employment in the following occupations: 1) Solar Installers; 2) HVAC Installer/
Technician; and 3) Weatherization Technician/Energy Auditor. The program will
utilize a multifaceted approach to facilitate exoffenders into new green career pathways.

Project Outcomes: In addition to the training of 25 participants and 12 staff
members and supervisors, outcomes will include the development of a unique
“GreenConnect” Job Club. This club will serve as a motivational job search and
networking group activity that will bridge training and employment within the
green industry.
