I have 28 Palin threads hidden

Earlier today, I read an OP where the author was asking that Palin threads be moved out of GD and that she had 17(?) such threads hidden. I thought it'd be interesting if I hid all the Palin threads I saw on the first page of GD and GD:P. Since this afternoon, I've made invisible 28 such threads. I think that's rather amazing.

Note: I won't hide this one as the subject isn't really about Palin herself but on why there is so much interest in her here at DU.

At the bottom of the OP to the right of the Recommend/ Unrecommended functions, you'll see the Hide Thread option.

16. Oh, it's even easier than that. You don't even have to open the

thread and see the OP at all. Just click the little "x" in the box next to the thread title in the listing and it will go away.

See...a new toy for you to play with. You can hide all those threads that bother you. You don't even have to look at them. Think of all the thought and consideration you won't have to expend. Now, it's even easier to just scroll past them, but if the very existence of a thread offends you so, you can just click the little "x" and "Poof" it will disappear. Cool, huh?

I've been here for almost seven years and I've never had anybody or anything on "ignore" or hidden. I usually just skip over this stuff. But it's really been getting to me, too, voted on a poll here, months ago, that Palin's 15 minutes were up. *sigh* So maybe this is the time. Just wish that I could do the same thing with the TV... x(

Personally, I think hiding threads, and ignoring people, for that matter, is stupid. Unless one is so unable to control their own impulses as to ***have*** to click into a thread.

Few would have time to post much if everyone took it upon themselves to read every post in every forum here.

Really, I found interesting a members request that all Palin threads be moved to it's own forum and decided to do this just to see how many such threads show up in the forums I usually check out. It's alot, which to me shows that some here have considerable interest in her. The MSM isn't trying to promote Palin, IMHO, they are following her because there is an eager market for any news about Sarah.

Those who think certain types of threads, or certain subjects belong elsewhere, really need to consider what people want to talk about. All their whining about what belongs on the greatest page - or not - and what is appropriate for this or that forum are as bad as those who post essentially repetitive threads. However, the simple fact is, this is a ***DISCUSSION*** forum. Anything that stifles discussion just seems wrong to me. And honestly, if a thread stirs up discussion, it is probably better that it got posted than not, isn't it?

60. GD & GDP is were the action is

and people will post what they think is important in the two main forums where most everyone else is. The mods at the Kerry/Edwards forum were quite busy moving threads out of the main forum into what they considered to be the appropriate sub-forum. Some people were upset by this when their thread got moved to a quiet place to die from lack of interest.

I can see both sides of the issue and don't have an answer for it. While one would not want to see the main forum's 1st page dominated by a particular topic (such as Palin) or issue (such as gun rights), one also wants to make sure everyone's views and opinions have access to as wide a readership as possible. It would help if every member surfed every sub forum but few take the time to do that. I don't. I go straight to GD and GDP and pretty much stay.

GDP became a huge turn off for me during the primaries when even some who I knew to be intelligent, critical thinkers to take leave of their senses.

It mostly remains that way. As do they. So I stay here where there seems to be at least marginally more critical thought in action.

Of course, the "you're unworthy of my reading your thread even as I am compelled to click into it" whiners are here, too.
