Despicable (from another board)...... a 'gold' board
Last night one of my neighbors, who is down on her luck, brought me a men's gold chain. I looked and felt it, it *was* heavy, but I wasn't sure. So I said I didn't want it. She needed some money, so she cleaned the bathroom, and I gave her $20. She offered "For another $30, you can have the gold chain."

Since it weighed a good 3 ounces, even at 10K, it was at least 1 ounce of melt. So I bought an ounce for $30!

I think I'll see if any other neighbors have "Old Gold".

man approached me. I knew he was going to ask. His voice was so weak, I could tell he was hungry and tired. Normally I never ever carry cash but for some reason or other I had the $20 in my pocket from earlier in the day. I told him all I had was a $20 which I was grateful to have to give to him. He was shocked, I just smiled and said good luck. I felt good all day about that. But for the grace of god that could've been me or one of mine. A random act of kindness is far more valuable than a box wrapped with a bow, at times.

2. so, with gold at 1150/oz why not
turn it in for melt, that should be about 900.00. Give her a hundred or so, just tell her you played the lottery or something with the money you got for it.

On the other hand, you've got quite the capitalistic attitude there with your last line.

4. I would have taken the necklace
sent it away to that place that gives cash for gold. Then if it was worth a lot of money I would have surprised her with the money when it came back. That would be the most proper thing to do. People should remember that some day the tables might be turned and they would need a lift up.
