4. I think Rachel talked about this --
Hassan was not an actaul member of the Task Force but an attendee of a meeting. IIIRC there is some footage of him at that meeting.

5. What of it? doesn't mean much
so Hasan seems to have been one of >150 people who contributed in some way to a think tank report. His input is likely to have been marginal at best, most of the recommendations in the document are pretty obvious stuff.

7. What folk do not realize...
Edited on Wed Nov-18-09 03:57 PM by HipChick

His presence on that "transition team" has been blamed on Bush and Obama, but in truth neither has any say over who George Washington University chooses to deal with. That "transition team" is not a governmental function.

are you expecting folks to predict the future? Had he actually done anything at the time. Obama's staff do not chose the guys on this panel, it's a non-partisan, independent George Washington University thing. Oh- Remember Lawrence Scott Ward, Professor kiddie-porn? He was a Bush adviser in 2006. yeah..Shit happens

8. It's legit and was discussed a lot a couple of weeks ago. This was just a task force that had no
power to influence the administration at all.

I'm curious that Major Hasan was so 'sane' and non-controversial 11 months ago that he could participate in this and then he became some sort of religious monster.

http://www.examiner.com/x-25466-DC-Independent-Examiner~y2009m11d16-Hasan-Participated-in-Presidential-Transition-Task-force-on-Homeland-Security

In his capacity as Disaster & Preventive Psychiatry Fellow at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine, Nidal Hasan registered (“RSVP’d”) to attend as an audience member a number of Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) events in the period June 2008 to February 2009. All of these events were open to the public. At no time has Nidal Hasan been affiliated with HSPI or The George Washington University.

All of our events are open to the public," Kaniewski says, "and when someone RSVPs we put their name in the so everyone knows who was in the room." He says institute staffers recall Hasan attending at least one task force event, and that he RSVP'd for several. "We do recall him speaking at one of our events as an audience member," he says, "but none of us recall what he actually said. Generally, our events are attended by people in the homeland security community, and Hasan had a very legitimate reason to be there. He was a fellow at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

The last event was held Jan 30th. Obama was mentioned once, during this last event.

What is there to discuss? GWU invited someone they knew to be an army doctor. Usually you aren't invited to these events without someone making a recommendation.

Chain e-mail links supected Fort Hood shooter to Obama - RATING PANTS ON FIRE
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/nov/13/chain-email/chain-e-mail-links-supected-fort-hood-shooter-obam/

The story links to a document published by the George Washington University Homeland Security Policy Institute, a think tank in Washington, D.C., titled "Thinking Anew—Security Priorities for the Next Administration." It is the proceedings from a series of meetings of the organization's Presidential Task Force. On page 29 of the paper, Hasan is listed as a participant; he was one of more than 300 officials, reporters and Capitol Hill aides who signed up for the conference.

In a statement, the think tank confirmed that the Hasan listed as a participant is the same Hasan accused of the Fort Hood shootings. But the statement also makes an important point: Hasan registered for the event on his own. He was not invited, and he attended only as an audience member in his capacity as a psychiatry fellow at the Uniformed Services University School of Medicine.

"All of these events were open to the public," the statement reads. "At no time has Nidal Hasan been affiliated with or The George Washington University."

So, Hasan chose to attend a conference relevant to his field, much like a doctor would attend a conference about diabetes, for example.

But here's the more important point: The task force has nothing to do with the White House, according to Sharon Cardash, associate director of the Homeland Security Policy Institute.

<SNIP

Hasan attended a meeting on a subject relevant to his profession, that much is clear. But beyond that, there's nothing to back up the chain e-mail's accusation that he somehow was "an ADVISOR" to the Obama administration or that GWU's task force was involved in the new White House. In fact, the group's work began long before Obama took office and is in no way affiliated with the White House. Another chain e-mail, another Pants on Fire!
