Which cinematic leading lady (character) most reminds you of Palin?
Norma Desmond: "I'm ready for my close-up now, America."

Alex Forrest: "I will not be ignored, America."

Tracy Flick: "Dear Lord Jesus, I do not often speak with you and ask for things, but now, I really must insist that you help me win the election tomorrow because I deserve it."

Suzanne Stone: "It's nice to live in a country where life, liberty and all the rest of it still stand for something."

Rhoda Penmark: "It's all lies!"

-or maybe someone else?

7. That's about it. And folks did that places like here - not in the MSM as is done against women.

12. Yes, because women have the exact same amount of clout in
the political arena as do men. Evidenced by their overwhelming majority in Congress and state and local offices throughout the US.

8. Darth Cheney? Mr. Burns?
How many have been compared to Alfred E. Neuman? Or even Scrooge? It happens all the time. The sexism would be to claim the delicate flowers deserve kinder treatment.

43. Presidential nicknames (not a woman among them)
Just to remind you that men get picked on a lot too.

Not all the nicknames are flattering

And the British are even meaner to their Prime Ministers

4. Tracy Flick minus 60 or so IQ points.
She's got the same sense of entitlement and is equally petty. I'm guessing in high school that Sarah substituted Tracy Flick's countless hours of studying with a good number of hand jobs.

the evil Queen from Snow White.

26. Do not defame Autie Mame in that way
Mame was a good liberal who would have made short work of a Palin type (remeber how she handled the Upsons).

28. Oh so true. I thought I qualified it through the "smarts and heart" remark.
I was really referring more to the theatrics, but maybe that was because of Rosalind Russell's interpretation of Mame, which Sarah is sort of a trailer park version of. She definitely has a lot more of Snow White's evil step mother, the Queen, in her as evidenced in her relationship with near son-in-law Levi. Also, if Levi is to be believed, Bristol is an unpaid maid and nanny in Palin's household much like Snow White was.

29. I'm probably overly sensitive.
When Rosalind Russell's version of Mame (which is the only Mame as far as I'm concerned) came out many people, including my grandparents, were convinced Patrick Denis had been spying on my mother and based the character on her.

Mame's theatrics were natural, Palin's are calculated. And, as you pointed out, Mame had a heart and smarts (as well as a sense of humor which Palin is lacking) - you just can't even be a poor shadow of Mame without those.

34. She's still with us
but she's nearly 86 and has slowed down quite a bit (no more martinis) but there's still a bit of Mame left in her. And, of course, she never had Mame's money - but if she had I'm sure we would have had dragon headed door bells that blew smoke and Danish furniture that could be "elevated", but at least she had/has the attitude and still does not suffer right wing fools gladly.

15. Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz.
Edited on Wed Nov-18-09 01:22 PM by L. Coyote
All fantasy, farm girl stuck on unconscious, something loose from its frame,
swept up in a whirlwind, lands in a magical political Munchkinland she has no clue about,
someone behind the scenes pulling the strings, with witches, strawmen, heartless robots,
Cindy the Wicked Witch of the West, lots of expensive ruby slippers,
and all her followers have no brain, no heart and no courage (the moran herd).

In the end the great and powerful wizard (Bush) proves to be a fraud,
a hot air balloon who destroys a global economy.
Palin says a tearful goodbye to the friends she has met in AK and heads for Kansas.
Chanting "There's no place like home," family and friends laugh and tells her it was all a dream.
Only Uncle John says sympathetically, "Of course we believe you, Sarah."

In the end she tells a story no one believes.
