The only good lie, as far as lies go, is an impeccable lie.
As a seven year old I told the most impeccable lie of my life at my first confession to a catholic priest.
The nuns at the school said that we were all sinners and who was I to argue with those witches.
Standing in line at the confessional I asked Joey, the boy in front of me what he was going to tell the priest. He said that he was going to say that he stole a dime from his father. I told Joey that I would tell the priest the same, that I stole a dime from my father. Joey advised me to not tell the same story as he and suggested that I change my story to two nickels, to tell the priest that I had stolen two nickels from my father. I agreed that this would throw of the priest from our conspiracy to lie and proceeded to tell the priest at my very first holy confession that I had stolen two nickels. An impeccable lie.
The priest told me to say five Our Fathers and five Hail Marys and to sin no more.

He doesn't have to be a passable liar. This is only a game, and the way he wins is by protecting the boss's inner circle.

He is betting the boss will reward him. He has even odds that the boss will dump him as a liability and scapegoat.

Mostly, he doesn't believe this gathering of nobodies can do a thing to him.

This is typical corporate politcs, not government. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you understand this administration completely.
