Congressman calls for Obama to release his birth certificate
Nathan Deal calls on Obama to produce birth certificate proving he's eligible for presidency
Congressman running for governor calls on president to produce birth certificate

By Larry Peterson

It's the question that keeps poking its head up through piles of debunking documents: Is Barack Obama eligible to be president?

U.S. Rep. Nathan Deal says Obama can dispel it with a birth certificate showing he's a U.S. native and therefore qualified for the White House.

Deal, a Republican running for governor in 2010, called on Obama on Tuesday to "put the matter to rest ... and provide the documentary evidence."

But two independent fact-checking groups and the state of Hawaii say he already has. Their conclusion: Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu.

3. Don't you get it. They have already done that and it doesn't matter.
There is no more accountability. Say what you want whenever you want. Lie after lie and you can still get away with it.

No credible human being on the planet has issues with Obama's citizenship--just the racist fleabaggers.

40. I agree
Just end the craziness. I really don't think it is asking too much for the president to submit an authentic BC to the public for examination. Its sitting right there in HI. Just get it over with, so we can MOVE ON. Really what is the big deal?

Just a guess, but if the shoe was on the other foot - I think there would be a similar % here that wouldn't just accept an online photo from a Republican, but thats just a guess. Open and transparent government serves everyone. This shouldn't be a partisan issue.

43. Do you think that would work?
I mean, the President's birth certificate has already been walked around, every lawsuit filed on this subject has been tossed out of court, and it looks like it's Nathan Deal's turn to make a stink about it. What makes you think that going through it all again is going to get this fake controversy settled? In two weeks, some other back bencher will come out and gin up the "controversy" again. Then just before Christmas, we'll see it again.

How many times does the issue have to be treated after it's been dealt with seven times? Another seven? Seventy times seven? This looks a lot like what was done to Michael Bellesisles, with useful tools, gullible nitwits and earnest ignoramuses demanding that the proof be walked around the public square one more time because they weren't paying attention the first ten times.

2. Gah!
Not a rerun of older controversies! At least the new ones open up a window into the scary minds of the loons to see how far they will go. They are inventive little fuckers. I'll give them that. You couldn't write a novel with half the shit in it that they come up with. It would be dismissed out of hand.

22. You just don't get it. He already did everything possible to
'put it to rest.' The only reason there's any story is racism and clinical paranoia on the part of the wingnuts.

Other than getting them mandatory psychological care, there's nothing more that can be done.

38. you don't get it: there IS no "putting it to rest"
no matter what you show them, they will never accept it as anything. The "birth certificate" is just an excuse to be little assholes who act like 2nd graders when their team was defeated in kickball.
Obama's birth certificate has been scrutinized and found genuine. It's THEIR problem if they can't accept that, not yours or that of anybody with half a brain.

Frankly, I find their histrionics and unbelievable stupidity amusing/entertaining, sort of like a trip to the zoo to watch the monkeys without the car trip and the expense (except that monkeys are infinitely more intelligent and engaging--these cretins are like neanderthals stuck in time: slow-witted and unable to adapt)--so I don't know why you're so intent on "putting it to rest" anyway.

24. You have to remember:
This crap is always with teabaggers/birthers/deathers/ad nauseum; fifty years from now, it'll be as fresh to them as it was five months ago because their hate for President Obama will as fresh then as it is now.

So, when pandering to that base, it's quite easy for a right-nutbag pol to bring the froth to the base's collective mouth by mentioning this old garbage...far easier, in fact, than discussing issues and the pol's plans for addressing them.

I am thinking though by allowing them to ask for the birth certificate wouldn't it alienate the sane people and just turn them against the Republicans for even asking? It makes them look, small, petty, obstructionist and scared. Mind you I wish they would stop.

32. This nonsense will go on until Obama is out of office
This is all anyone with a modicum of f*cking common sense needs to know:

"But two independent fact-checking groups and the state of Hawaii say he already has. Their conclusion: Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961, in Honolulu."

And I'm focusing more on what the state says than the two fact-checking groups. By the way, did we ever "put to rest" whether Bill and Hillary had Vince Foster killed?

Just asking. B-)

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) lists Deal as one of the 15 most corrupt members of Congress, for trying to influence officials for personal gain.<4> According to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Deal "personally intervened with Georgia leaders to preserve an obscure state program that earns his company nearly $300,000 a year."<5>
