Dana Rohrabacher on Cspan now. (7:30 PM Philly time.)
Actually, he's just finishing up.
I only know him as a "Republican and Therefore WeReally Really Dislike Him" type.
But he has been speaking now for twenty minutes at least, begging us NOT to send any more military to Afghanistan.
A fine speech, by my lights.
My favorite phrase.."if we have learned ANYTHING in the past two centuries, it's that you don't march on Moscow and you don't try to invade Afghanistan."
He thinks we should send at least some of the money we'd spend on troop deployment to the Afghans instead so they can take care of themselves.
He made sense to me. Please educate me on this guy. I'm ready to call his office and thank him.

2. He's one of the most disgusting of the Republicans.
He's against sending more troops to Afghanistan because it's Obama who'll be doing the sending. Call him and thank him if you want but he has never impressed me anything but a real crudbud.

4. Rohrabacher has been a long-time friend of the Taliban
He was Ronald Reagan's special envoy to Afghanistan to organize the so-called freedom fighters against the Soviets and where he even met Osama Bin Laden. He was even meeting with them after 9/11 while at the same time condemning them in the press.

http://www.ocweekly.com/2002-09-12/features/rogue-statesman/1

"...As a speechwriter and special assistant to President Ronald Reagan, Rohrabacher played a key role in the late 1980s getting money and arms, including U.S.-made Stinger missiles, to Afghan holy warriors, then at war with the Soviet Union. He once bragged of being "certainly a major player" in a coalition inside the White House that supported anyone "opposing Communist domination around the world." In November 1988, he even visited the Afghan front lines during a five-day hike with an armed mujahideen patrol in eastern Afghanistan. Among those fighters he encountered, he later recalled, were "Saudi Arabians under a crazy commander named bin Laden." ..."

(...)

"...In fact, Rohrabacher's post-Sept. 11 finger-pointing was a fraud designed to distract attention from his own ongoing meddling in the foreign-policy nightmare. Federal documents reviewed by the Weekly show that Rohrabacher maintained a cordial, behind-the-scenes relationship with Osama bin Laden's associates in the Middle East—even while he mouthed his most severe anti-Taliban comments at public forums across the U.S. There's worse: despite the federal Logan Act ban on unauthorized individual attempts to conduct American foreign policy, the congressman dangerously acted as a self-appointed secretary of state, constructing what foreign-affairs experts call a "dual tract" policy with the Taliban. ..."

6. Basically he is the weakest elected Republican in the country
and owes his continued employment to the Democrats finding the worst possible candidates to run in CA-46, he has been written off by the national republican party time and time again - but we always rise to the occasion and run a total dunce against him. Most recently flake Huntington Beach mayor Debbie Cook who has never been photographed without looking like she just stepped out of a particularly fragrant outhouse and despite holding an impressive list of past job titles has never actually done anything in her entire life. Despite the fact Rohrabacher was in bed with Abramoff and Cunningham the best she could come up with in the election last year was making fun of stoned sounding shit Rohrabacher mumbled about on the Space and Aviation Subcommittee.
