Surprise! Sharp uptick in militia activity. Anyone want to defend these 'concerned gun owners.'
Anyone?

...it was clear there was the usual undertow of unhinged paranoia present -- along with clear statements that they were motivated by fear of a Democratic president, and particularly Obama:

ACOSTA (voice-over): Training for what depends on who you ask, but this militia member, who didn't want to give his last name, worries the government will eventually take away his gun rights.

"BRIAN", SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN VOLUNTEER MILITIA: Well, any time we get a Democratic president in the office, people become concerned, including myself and we get a resurgence out here.

ACOSTA: Others just don't like President Obama. So, you don't trust him?

MICHAEL LACKOMAR, SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN VOLUNTERR MILITIA: In short, I think he could be dangerous for the nation.

1. You are asking for a defense of militias? Or a defense of private gun ownership?
Just to be clear.

2. There's 80 million gun owners in the US.
A large chunk of them voted for Obama. Including me, my father, and at least two others I know, one of whom is the husband of our local Democratic chair. You think all gun owners are like the militia nuts? That's like saying anyone who's against animal cruelty is the same as the people throwing blood on celebrities wearing fur.

9. You're a man - do you support these male people?
Just because two people own guns does not mean they have they same opinions, nor should it be a gotcha or an attempt at making any kind of point whatsoever that they disagree.

In case it's unclear no I do not agree with their silly paranoia about Obama taking guns away. I certainly of course agree with their right to say so if that's what they believe. As long as they do not try to incite people to violence they can have whatever wacky opinion they want, whether they have guns or not.

5. The unfunny thing is, the republicons were bringing their totalitarian Homeland

on gangbusters for 8 years, and these clowns just lapped it up, merrily surrendering.

Now that the totalitarian threat has been lessened somewhat by Americans kicking the corrupt, manipulative Republicon Homelanders out, the Militia boyos get their longjohns all sweaty and knotted up with fear.

They really gob up the republicon corporate funded propaganda aimed at them by the republicon fear & fail freaks.

Go figure.

8. I wish I could conjure up a few letters to the editor from a so-called ....
militia group we had here in Idaho. They called themselves the "Idaho Mountain Boys", or at least their "leader" did. It never amounted to more than a few unemployed drunks from central Idaho. More of a support group actually.
One guy writing opposing letters always called them "The Idaho Mountain Boy". I loved it.
It always occurred to me that if I was going to put a group together like that, that I would try and keep it secret. If you were really seriously threatened by a government and were willing to take up arms, you shouldn't tell them who you are. The Germans never knew who the Russian partisans were. Their intelligence maybe came up with their leaders names and a little more info. Same with any effective guerrilla force.
It's more about getting on TV in their camo costumes and showing of their assault rifles for these guys.

10. If they were serious, they wouldn't be attracting attention to themselves.
It's the quiet ones one needs to be concerned about.

11. The next McVeigh will be there when the cameras aren't around.
The day CNN was there, he was at a gun show.

These places are breeding grounds for hate.
