With the Obama visit, the resident Hack over here in Asia did a story about the Obamao t-shirts being popular and banned at the same time. So, they go into a market and grab one and start filming. So, security comes over and does the whole standing front of the camera bit and CNN made it look like some kind of government cover-up.
Now, I have many problems with China and the government, however, what these security guards did was no different from what guards in the USA would have done. When I did stories back home we never went into private property and just started filming. Why? Cause that's exactly what would happen and who needs the hassle.
Instead that fucking hack at CNN decided to use it to get some attention the way the umbrellas did on the Tiananmen anniversary. Absolute distortion of the facts.
She could have easily just bought the shirt, gone outside and filmed her segment, or asked permission.
An independent Chinese station I'm working at part-time was on to this story a few weeks ago. Our reporter asked permission to film in the Silk Market in Beijing, and was allowed. The only problem he came up against was merchants not wanting to talk on camera, and given the country's history, I don't blame them.
But to make it look like some commie conspiracy is just irresponsible.... god, oh WHY did CNN have to get turned on!?!?
It reminds me more and more of why I left the west.
