America’s First Cannabis Cafe Open
http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/16/americas-first-cannabis-cafe-open/

At precisely 4:20 p.m. last Friday afternoon, the Cannabis Café, the first coffee house in the United States allowing licensed users of medical marijuana to sit down and smoke, opened for business in Portland, Ore.

The new cafe went into operation just weeks after the Justice Department announced that people who use marijuana for medical purposes and those who distribute it to them will not face federal prosecution, provided they act according to state law. The time of day for the opening was a pot-smokers’ in-joke: “420″ has been used as code for the drug or its use since the early 1970s.

===========

Here's hoping it's the start of a trend where people will finally wake up and see the tax dollars.

4. who gives a damn if they do?
Edited on Mon Nov-16-09 09:06 PM by nosmokes
as a three time cancer survivor and chronic migraine sufferer I am fed up w/ this country's puritan drug laws. Marijuana works. The fact that it is also popular for recreational use is not my fault or the plant's, nor is it necessarily a bad thing.

edit for speeling doncha know...

7. I don't. But as far as I'm concerned, they shouldn't have to go to the bother.

I was poking fun at the process. That's my problem.

As long as they don't sell to kids, I don't think having a prescription should be needed for pot any more than for booze.

edited typo.

9. My mother died of cancer.
It DID piss me off so much that HEAVEN FORBID should the dose of morphine get so high that she might get a little LIGHT HEADED. OH NOES!

I'm LUCKY I haven't had your problems, but I know if I did, I wouldn't let some fucking law get in the way of my getting relief.

...and DAMN there's no justice in the world if you'd get into any trouble over it.

14. I am licensed to smoke medical marijuana
Edited on Mon Nov-16-09 10:32 PM by Roon
I have aids and take it for pain and tummy problems. I self medicated with beer for five years because it was legal, easy to get, and cheap. Of course in the mornings I would be hungover but the liquor store opened at 9:30AM I could drink my first beer and not be hungover for the rest of the day. I would get sick, end up in the hospital, and have to dry out because I would drink so much.I caught pneumonia 3 times and almost died once. Beer/Booze was the only thing that took that painful icky feeling from having aids away.

Now I just go a dispensary not far from here and pick up buds anytime I want. Yeah it's expensive, but I would rather pay the extra and NOT drink beer and feel normal, then save money and get drunk.

I wish my elderly, ailing step-father would smoke weed. It would save his life.

ON EDIT:Instead of drinking 15 beers a day,I am drinking 15 beers a week and it's FREE!! :hi:
