Now, I haven't seen a Playboy or a Playgirl lately, but last I did it was laughable to call either of them "porn." They're 90% text with some very tame (comparatively) artful nude shots. If you wanted "porn," you bought Hustler. Now that's some rude shit!

Any Playboy I ever read -- and I read a ton of 'em -- featured about 85% text: fiction (mostly non-sexual; Playboy even sponsors annual College Fiction contests which launched several notable authors) and news and music reviews and movie reviews. The first pictorial of mostly non-full-frontal models was about five pages. The main feature, the "Playmate," was about ten. The back third of the magazine was usually a tame compilation, like "Girls of the Car Wash" or "Girls of the Top Ten." Again, the vast majority of Playboy is pop-culture pap, not unlike GQ or Vanity Fair. They just put some "Page 3" girls in between the articles, which, btw, British papers have been doing for years.

Playboy is to porn what Hanna Barbera is to Hentai.

the fact that playgirl and playboy have very good articles, and even that the bulk of their pages is not devoted to nude pictures, does not render them not pornographic.

most states have a law making it illegal to disseminate pornography to a minor

so, are you actually arguing that if you gave copies of playgirl to a bunch of under 18 yo boys, that you would be immune from prosecution because playgirl is not pornography? good luck on that

Playgirl may be light porn, but it's porn. Sure, artists have had nudes pose probably from the time pigments were around, and therefore porn has been around. I suppose you could try and define porn to be a bit more precisely, but I think most people think that if it has the intent to titillate, even mildly, it can be called porn. Obscenity has a much tighter description and I think Playgirl is way below that threshhold.
