Who is the Democrat's "Sarah Palin"?
on the Dem's side, who's running around talking nonsense, thinking they are the next coming, embarrassing Dems?

Sorry...just kidding of course. Happens when I hit the Merlot too early!

27. That might not be the right method as the more conservative don't cringe
If I had to characterize her, I would list these things:

- Willing to take extreme positions
- Plays a lot on the fact that she is good looking and has a media segment that loved her.
- Sparked dislike on our side that was at an almost visceral level.
- Used the person who lifted her to the fame she had and turned on him.
- short history of service to her country.
- big knowledge deficit

I seriously cannot think of a Democrat who was not better on facts and basic knowledge - so to find our "Sarah Palin", I eliminated that. I know some will be angry, but the closest I can think of is John Edwards circa 2006 - 2008 - but even then he did not move as far to the left as she did to the right.

who said something mildly controversial and make them equivalent. Maybe some actress from Hollywood?

41. No, they are not
but, women tend to get compared to other women, while men get compared to other men. It's rare for comparisons to cross gender or race, even if there are legitimate items to compare.

50. I am aware of that being true, but here I think there are characteristics of Palin
Edited on Tue Nov-17-09 08:56 AM by karynnj
that are the real problem that really could exist with both men or women. The fact is the media has created at least some people who pick on the same basis of characteristics that are more suitable for American Idol than the Presidency.

I did not look for a female Democratic "Sarah Palin" because there was no woman ever considered to be a serious candidate for our nomination who fits that definition. (The fact is that to date there has really only been one woman who was a serious contender and she absolutely does not fit the Palin description. I actually cringed when she got the question this Sunday on whether she thought both she and Palin were discriminated against as women.) The only other woman of comparable status is Nacy Pelosi, who completely does not fit that role. I thought that "being considered a serious candidate for the Presidency" was more important than gender, so I eliminated that.

I suspect that the long process to win an open nomination will reject the "Palin" candidates, both on the left and right. Notice that neither Dan Quayle or John Edwards ever came close to winning a nomination on their own - even though in 2004, there were many in the media cheering John Edwards on well after it was obvious that John Kerry was going to be the nominee. In some ways party insiders who pushed these three people on more serious, more qualified Presidential nominees as the people who will best appeal to American voters may seriously underestimate the voters.

40. A democratic woman could never get away with doing 1/10
of the stuff Palin and Bachmann have done. And since they raised a fuss about Bachmann using her federal website for her personal gain we haven't hear much from her have we. I still think the ethic committee should investigate her for inciting to riot and telling people to harm representatives.

43. You're 100% right
As I said, something mildly controversial and out of context will be blown way out of proportion and suddenly, the media will label this Democrat as the liberal Sarah Palin.

29. What of the third choice, John Edwards?
He drew crowds and part of his appeal was his looks. Palin does repeat beliefs that her base agrees with. The main point where they differ is that he is intelligent, but he is just as opportunistic.

37. True, but Palin's base thinks she is great
Edwards is more intelligent, but was not really more substantial.

The hard thing is to I limited myself to those who generated the crowds and support. I suspect that like Edwards was limited to no more than 15%, I suspect that may be the case with Palin as well, but I suspect the intensity of her voters will be has committed as his.

The Democrats' Sarah Palin is Fred Phelps. He's a registered Dem, thinks his shit don't stink and respectable Democrats attempt to pawn him off on the other side every time he does anything, which is frequently.

I'm sorry, but no one else comes close. Kucinich has been a good guy for a very long time. Edwards is a good guy. Cynthia McKinney has her charms. The only Dem who is so consistently wrong as Sarah Palin is Phelps.
