Really?
Do **you** really, deep down, in your moments of personal honesty, think the US economy is recovering?

2. Yes
but only because corporations have been able to shed costs by getting rid of employees and therefore their bottom lines are better.

Hence the "economic recovery but no jobs recovery" meme.

5. Of course.
It went down. Hit bottom this summer or there abouts. Now it's started its way back up.

That's how economies work.

6. For some, perhaps.
Even if "the economy" recovers, for many it'll be too late.

Of course, "those type of people" probably "deserved" it so we won't worry about them.

Yeah, I'm using the :sarcasm: tag this time.

7. It's recovering up to the point where it was before..
Which is to say a level that is still unsustainable and grossly unfair to most people who aren't filthy rich.

Step 2 should address these issues.

24. People feel it's unfit for the greatest page.
Plus, they could tell it's just another one of your vanity posts.

I mean, you've got a cartoon of a cheerleader and an ostrich.

I'm so glad you're so upset this thread didn't turn out the way you wanted it to.

25. Hey man
Thanks for keeping it real. We all look to you to judge what's right and fair and, by gosh, the good old American way, yessiree.

I hereby declare you that very smartest person on DU. And so self controlled, And so knowing of what people think, and what's right.

Wow. You are just so special. And to think. Here you are. In my lowly thread telling me what's right. I'm really grateful for that.

The cheerleader was you.

The ostrich, not so much.

And you're really a fun distraction in my lonely world. Sort of like a cat and mouse kinda thing. Amusing. Ya know.

Its funny. You claim to know what I feel and think, but by gawd, you read every damned thing I post, dont'cha, boy?

Yes, it's a discussion board. The thing is, you were never interested in discussion. You wanted everybody to agree with you, and you got upset when you didn't. So you started with the cartoons when what you really wanted was your own personal cheerleaders.

11. Not really
"Recovery" is kind of a loaded term.

Between the lines, it means "going back to the la-la good times before the Big Bubble popped."

I for one don't think that's going to happen. We can hope it was just another business cycle, but more likely, we're seeing a fundamental structural shift.

14. Ever so slowly but yes there are signs of recovery
Travel restriction have been lifted for my company. We can purchase office supplies again.

I know they are not huge signs but they are some of the things that were clamped down on as a result of the recession.

30. Short- and medium-term, absolutely.
Edited on Mon Nov-16-09 03:03 PM by SteppingRazor
The signs are everywhere. GDP's up, almost every indicator of economic growth is higher than it was a few months ago. Even the job market is better in that we're not losing jobs at even remotely the same rate as we were when Obama took office.

All that said, long-term, I think we're just back in the same boom-bust cycle that has become the hallmark of the modern American economy. Without real economic reform, which means tighter regulation, a return of Glass-Steagall, etc., all we've done is back up away from the cliff, only to rev our engines and head right back for it.

32. Restauarants around here seem to be getting busier
I went to Outback the other night and it was fuller than I have seen it in months. I'm also starting to get unsolicited credit card offers in the mail again, after a pretty long hiatus. I need to try to remember how to get back on that "do not mail" list. So yes, I think Obama and his team are starting to turn things around.
