What is your reaction to "Foreclosure of the Day?"
A Long Island newspaper is running Foreclosure of the Day articles. I don't see any indication that it is a paid announcement; it seems to be a blog entry in the online real estate section. The house has already been foreclosed on and is owned by the bank. Here's a link:http://www.newsday.com/classifieds/real-estate/real-li-1.812034/foreclosure-of-the-day-copiague-colonial-for-409-900-1.1586054

My reaction is complete disgust. Why is it not just a listing of the day? Or if the price is low, show it as a value or good buy? Why would someone be interested simply because it is a foreclosed property? To me, it makes the property less attractive, knowing the last owners faced the sadness of losing their home.

I also don't like the fact that this is apparently free advertising. Why should the bank and listing agent get a free listing in the online newspaper?

Is there a different way of viewing this?

1. I'm not a real-estate expert, but maybe it has something to do with negotiating a price?
If you knew the property was a "foreclosure," you might have a better chance at getting it at a reduced price since the bank is wanting to unload it.

But I agree, "Foreclosure of the Day" does seem a bit ghoulish...

2. Perhaps the newspaper believes humans are actually half vulture? nt

3. to be momentarily charitible perhaps they want to raise awareness of a real problem there
I mean maybe they want to do this but the editor wanted it there for some reason?

But who knows. It could well be the vulture thing.

4. I suppose regardless of their intention, the "Foreclosure of the Day"
articles both raises awareness to this problem and gives vultures something to look at.
