Where to start with this item, so many directions:

1) DOBBS' need to be himself -- so strong that he couldn't compromise? OR, sounds like, EXTORTION: "I won't change, but PAY me!1" Seems like they could have fired him, free, for insubordination.

2) O'LOOFAH loves featuring whackos SO far out that they (BecKKK, Toesucker MORRIS, Dennis MILLER, et al.) make him seem normal or mainstream by comparison.

3) "He couldn't stand the scrutiny." He was near drooling, sputtering, and speechless when the Southern Poverty Law Center faced him down, shocked SHOCKED at the possibility he just might be racist!1

4) It puts a whole different aspect on how "amicable" his departure was, and how much love and respect he had for his co-workers, and...

CNN 'wanted him out'

By MICHAEL SHAIN

AP

EXCLUSIVE

CNN was so sick of Lou Dobbs, it gave him an $8 million severance package to leave, The Post has learned. ....

But it was not clear until now that CNN was willing to pay Dobbs so much money to leave. ....

The end came quickly once the exit package had been negotiated, said Robert Dilenschneider, a spokesman for the anchorman. ....

Dobbs is set to give his first TV interview since then to Fox News' Bill O'Reilly tonight, leading to speculation that he may be headed there. But TV insiders said such a move is highly unlikely.

Talk about a possible political career -- possibly as candidate for the Senate from New Jersey in 2012 -- is also probably overblown, friends said.

"He couldn't stand the scrutiny," said one colleague. ....

1. "He couldn't stand the scrutiny". That is so true. The guy has never
had to deal with real criticism of his policies, which is what would happen in a run for a political office.

5. This is really good
I don't know but maybe this is a corner turning in the media? Where the hate-mongers finally sound idiotic after the 8 years of conservative media lock-down we had where to question hate was to question our country and be labeled unpatriotic?

I am hoping that the fact that CNN was willing to pay so much to be rid of him shows that hate media is loosing a little traction.

7. The only thing I agreed
with him was outsourcing of American jobs to other countries. But I don't think he discussed this topic much lately.

Rich boys gotta get richer so let's have some Chinese 12-year old do the work.

8. While I agree, CNN wanted him to go
I imagine the 8 million had more to do with compensation for the remainder of his contract.

10. Why did CNN pay Loud Obbs $8 million to leave?
Because it was worth it! (Ba-dum cha!) Thanks folks, I'll be here all week!

On the slightly more serious side, though, it probably was cheaper to pay Dobbs $8 million rather than can his ass. You get him out the door, start with a fresh slate, and never have to think about him again. You fire him, and the stench of Dobbs hangs around the place for years until the litigation settles, and even if CNN wins the case, it loses.
