Pete Hoekstra: US Shouldn’t Close Guantanamo — It’s a “Great Place”

Pete Hoesktra (T-MI) doesn’t understand why we should close Gitmo “while we are still under the threat from radical jihadists.”

Congressman Hoesktra, meet General Petraeus.

The head of U.S. Central Command, General David Petraeus, has told RFE/RL he thinks that “on balance” the expected closure of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and abandonment of so-called enhanced interrogation techniques will “help” U.S. efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the struggle against transnational extremist violence.

Petraeus says that closing Guantanamo “in a responsible manner…sends an important message to the world, as does the commitment of the United States to observe the Geneva Convention when it comes to the treatment of detainees.”

Might’ve been nice if Bob (Schieffer) had put this to Crazy Pete, but I guess that would’ve been asking too much.

3. Do they think "radical jihadists" have supernatural powers?
That they need to be kept on a faraway island in a concrete bunker lined with Kryptonite?

God almighty, these conservatives are just quivering masses of jelly when it comes to any sort of threat where it concerns Muslims.

They should stop hiding behind their mommy's skirts and get back in the REAL world.

6. do they think "radical jihadists" are worse than other common criminals?
I fear our well-armed local streets gangs more than Al Queda.

If our criminal justice system is good enough for the Crips and MS-13, it is good enough for Al Queda

4. My hometown congress-idiot.
Replaced Guy VanderJact, another wonderful American.

Neither of them paid any attention to the issues in my home area.

Not that I should be surprised.

5. Hoekstra should be at Guantanamo.
Because he did leak a couple of the people the CIA was tracking to the press, and fought to put sensitive stuff on the internet, including bomb schematics, for all to see......dumb meatbag.

9. A BIG K&R!
This guy is a serious contender in the Rethug primary for the Gov's race next year. Between his blathering to the Washington Post about classified info and this nonsense, this is shaping up to be a fabulously bloody Rethug primary. Couldn't be happier! I will K&R all the future (inevitable) stories about what stupid thing this guy said.

Keep 'em coming Pete!

11. His run for governor....
is probably why he keeps trying to get his name in the press so much lately. The things he says may help him win the GOP nomination but will probably hurt him in the general election. I'm, however, guessing that he doesn't even get the nomination.

13. That's funny considering he compared the plight of the GOP to the Iranian revolutionaries being
murdered in the streets.
