Page one is full of photos from the march of these "patriots" who hold the constitution in high regard (2nd, but not the 1st ammendment). Page two begin the comments from people who strangely think they speak for our soldiers and the majority of America:

I am in favor of proposing a federal law to make it a maximum $1 fine for breaking the head of anyone who defaces an American flag. Naturally this law would supercede all state and local ordinances. Think the bill would get any support ?

Then one site member makes a "controversial" statement confusing America with Communism:
I was there. I was not participating per se.... it was very interesting to watch none the less as a passive observer. I learned much from both sides... DC is such an interesting place, I love that city.

Watching the display made me very proud to be American... the protesters were free. They expressed a very radical opinion in front of an icon of power without fear of death. I think our founding fathers would be proud.

This is what everyone was talking about when they said that you were too young to understand things. Free speech is nice and all, especially for an idealogical college kid like yourself. However, there is certain speech that must not be free, and there are those that should not have the right to speak freely. The voice of our enemy should be suppressed at every turn, the voice of communism and socialism should be suppressed at every turn. The voice that speaks for the destruction of America as we know it must be permanently silenced. Thousands of Americans have lost their lives in the fight to prevent the spread of communism, and just because the Soviets are out of business does not mean that the fight is over. If the government does not want to involve itself in stamping out the communists then we will, their rights be dammed.

The line is very clear, if you associate and support ANWSER, Code-pink, or any of their fellow groups, you are a TRAITOR. They are spreading their agenda under the guise of being "anti-war". If you cannot put aside your distaste for the war in Iraq and realize that you have the duty as an American to stop them, then you are a TRAITOR. Just because you are not happy with something that our government has done, does not mean you should align yourself with foreign organizations bent on the destructing of America because you agree with them on one point. If you do you are a TRAITOR. America can handle our own business, AFTER these people are stopped. Until then, if your not with the GoE, you are against them, and if your against them, you are against America.

I met a "pro-war" type at the local VFW who probably shares this sentiment. A friend of mine (who is a Vietnam-era vet and a peace activist) and I were trying to work out something with the VFW post to rally the community to help wounded troops a couple years ago.

One of the VFW'ers we met glared at us with deep, bitter hatred burning in his eyes. I swear if he could have gotten away with it, he would have taken us out back and shot us.

I'm familiar with guns, but chose to keep them out of my life a long time ago. And I still feel that's the only sane decision in a sane world. Problem is, this country is no longer sane. Its political leadership is insane, its economy is based on the insane premise that capitalism lifts all boats, substantial numbers of its citizens are either religiously insane or culturally insane, and these pieces of shit are only the tip of the insanity iceberg.

There's always been an undercurrent of war between the left and the right, with the right doing most of the posturing and sniveling and the left laughing our asses off at these Neanderthals. However, insidious influences proliferate.

America is now politically committed to a culture of death. Hatred for anything unorthodox just oozes like pus from this administration, and that's who these sick fucks look to for their marching orders.

The chasm opened by wingnut radio guarantees that left and right will always despise each other, with that mutual hatred occasionally running to violence. And I suspect we'll see more of that if BushCo really does crash and burn, because these cretins will blame us -- and I only wish I had that much power.

The economy is in a death spiral and these illiterates will blame anybody but themselves for the fact that they're not going to have a place in the age of uber-corporatism, except as janitors and rent-a-cops. But they're not capable of introspection, so they'll take it out on immigrants, brown people, black people, yellow people, intelligent people, street people, lefties, writers, artists, profs -- anybody who hasn't sunk to their level of beer-soaked faux-patriotic imbecility.

And above all is the ultimate terror: a stupid, beer-soaked, fascistic religious lunatic. With the bigot god of christian identity guiding his staggering steps, this bastard, and thousands like him, will declare holy war on all the above-mentioned groups, and probably dozens more.

The whole thing will reek of twisted patriotism, justified by twisted religion, and carried out by heavily armed and thoroughly twisted wingnut sons of bitches who, as I immodestly maintain, aren't qualified to kiss my ass.

So, while the Second amendment gives me the creeps -- at least the way it's used to justify the random slaughter that's become routine in this country -- it does provide a means for those of us who fall into one or more of the despised groups to inflict serious damage on those who would do us harm.

If it comes to that, and if social controls are out the window, it seems sensible to acknowledge the facts of the situation and act accordingly.
