My daughter called me last night. A Nor'easter ravaged the Virginia peninsula
and I had absolutely no idea.

Her call was the first I'd heard of it!!

She had just returned home, as they were without power and it was so cold they had to go to a motel (she has two very young ones).

I've always heard of these storms hitting the Mass. area, but not Virginia.

I hope all Virginian DUers are safe and ok!!

1. We actually saw quite a bit about it out here
but a lot of the coverage was focused on the monetary issue of "lost beach sand"..

They were even calling the storm "Nor-Ida".. It also ravaged North Carolina,, Lots of wind damage & coastal flooding.

2. Yes the weather is changing and doing weird shit
hell I almost wore shorts to the market today. It is the middle of November in San Diego... a tad too late for a Santa Ana, yet it almost feels that way.

3. 47 here in Big Bear, going down to 19 or lower tonight. Both are around 6-7 degrees
below average for November.

6. I'm getting tired of all this heat in winter and no rain.
I should have a garden hose grafted on to my hand for all the watering I have to do every day and it's too hot to cook indoors.

4. We were without power for a little over 24 hours.
The rain and the wind were quite destructive. It felt like a category 1 hurricane had hit. Then today, sunshine and the 70's.

5. Yeah, Nor-Ida was a bummer....
I live on the Jersey coast, and we were rocking for the past few days. (Fortunately, we didn't lose any power.) And I finally realized something: flying sea foam really creeps me out. Today, however, all is a calm.

Hope the power's back on at your daughter's home.

7. freaky warm up here in Maine
Following nor'easter deluge last night -- really more like a tropical monsoon with high winds. Dragonflies and bugs out today, and many plants sent up a bunch of shoots, but yellow-green due to lack of sun. :( Last year this time we were buried under snow and didn't see the ground again until April or so.

Nearly switched to tee and shorts this morning...staying inside where it's a tad cooler. :wtf:
