Palin to Media "Quit Findin' Things Out" - THE MUDFLATS
Edited on Sun Nov-15-09 03:06 PM by Blue_In_AK
I usually try to avoid starting posts about $'error (I love this new name), but Mudflats has such a good (and funny) overview of reaction to "Going Rogue," both here and nationally, that I feel compelled to provide the link. Be sure to check out the linked articles, particularly the Alaska bloggers.

Well Palin’s book is not even out yet, but the dam has burst. The floodgates are open. The rogue has hit the fan.

Why? Because something has happened that Sarah Palin, her ghostwriter Lynn Vincent and her editor never anticipated. That darn media is at it again, only this time they’ve sunk to a new low. They have stooped to … fact checking. It’s these kinds of ambush, gotcha, guerilla tactics that keep good decent people from writing works of historical fiction and marketing them as memoirs. It’s a disturbing trend.

It’s hard to keep up with the tide of information, leaks, commentary, and debunking going on, but here is some catch up material for those of you who have other things you’ve been doing in your life than keeping up with the latest Palin revelations.

<snip>

I could go on. And on. And by the time today is over, there will be a whole new set of articles to take its place, and then next week the book arrives and the real fun begins. So get your beauty sleep, and stock up on comfort food and adult beverages because you’re going to need them.

She doesn't link to The Immoral Minority http://theimmoralminority.blogspot.com/ , but his post entitled "Sarah Palin has written a book for a very specific audience" is insightful.

1. "The rogue has hit the fan."

While a couple of weeks ago I was dreading the $'errorfest to come.

Now, I think I'm going to enjoy it a bit! :)

2. I agree.
As Jeanne says, we can all grab an adult beverage, kick back and enjoy the fun.

3. Thanks, Blue..I love
the new name too.. I never wanted to call her by her first name as I thought it was too good for her.

Too many decent people named Sarah.

4. ”one is immediately struck by how nasty and vindictive Palin is, and that her book is little more
than a veiled mechanism for settling scores with old foes..."

Geoffrey Dunn nails it. Palin CANNOT let anything go. And most of the slights are all in her empty head.

5. That first comment at your second link is a real keeper.
"There is no point in arguing facts or reason with the group for who this book is written. My evangelical relatives just smile a SMUG smile if I try to point out the importance of logic, facts, and scientific proof.
Here is the chiller: There are many religious fanatics here in the U.S. - 'Going Rogue' has just gone into SECOND PRINTING - 1.5 million is not enough to meet the demand (WTF?)."

That's her base, all right, and the comment nails it perfectly.

These are the Dominionist crazies who think the "Left Behind" series is a continuation of the bible. Yes, they're troublemakers completely out of proportion to their real numbers, but they have to be taken seriously.

None of her base will take any criticisms of her lack of fact checking in this book seriously. The only wonder I have is that Palin herself has been stung by them.

These are people who really think they can create their own alternative reality and so far, they've pretty much succeeded.

6. Can you explain her new nickname, $'error?
I can't even figure out how to pronounce it, much less what it's supposed to stand for (apart from the error that IS Sarah). Gracias, mi agmiga! :hi:

7. You got it...
The error that is Sarah and the $$$, of course. I guess I got it immediately when I first saw this name used because I've had friends from other parts of the country call me "Linder" instead of "Linda." It's a New England thing, isn't it?

And yes, it is a New England thing, just not from my part of New England. :)

14. Probably a Boston/ Mass thing.
My grandma who had been born and raised in Boston talked like that. R's everywhere except where they belonged. if you listen to some english dialects they do that too.

Grandpa was from New Hampshire. He pretty much just said 'Ayup' a lot.

12. Very typical to insert an "r" in between words when there are vowel sounds
at the end and start of a pair of words. For some reason East Coasters need something to break up two vowel sounds. "Sarah isn't too bright" become "Sarar isn't too bright." I have never understood it, but it is what it is.

13. I don't think it's an "East Coaster" thing.
First of all, the vast majority of the East Coast doesn't talk like this at all! You're probably not going to find this in any of the Southern states, for instance. But you won't find it even in the majority of North Eastern state. The stereotypical thick New York City accent doesn't do this at all. OTOH, I've heard a variation of this accent among native Coloradans while I've been out here, particularly with the word "area," saying "airyer" just like many New Englanders. Even stranger b/c the rest of their accent traces tend to sound southern.
