I was just looking at this photo thinking about how it could be used as a type of litmust test.

Thinking about how little some things have changed (essential human nature which I suppose can't be changed). How you could make up some questions to go along with it, especially for people who don't know what is being depicted:

"Who do you identify with? The woman in front or those behind her?"

"Who do you trust the most in this photo? Who do you like the most?"

"Make up a story to go along with the picture, tell us what is happening and what the people are doing."

"What is being said by the people in the photo?" (ACOOORRRNNN!!!! Community organizer! Socialist Nazi!)

1. Nobody but the most hard-core racist would admit to identifying with the crowd.
Even if they personally hold such feelings.

2. I've always wondered who that kid was behind
the black student with her mouth wide open. I'd love to put a name on her, see what she's become.

3. I'm sure she must be very proud of that photo and her role in history.

8. I saw her on Oprah several years ago.
Oprah had several of the people in that photo on her show. The woman with her mouth open yelling at the black student apologized to her for her behavior. She said she regrets what happened that day.

I'm glad people can change for the better.

5. What might the different people in the photo be thinking?
For those whose mouths are open, what are the saying?

6. The difference in expressions in that picture has always amazed me.
How poised and gracious the young black woman is, and how hateful, stupid, cruel, and ignorant those white women and men around her are.

7. Unfortunately, people are blind to their relationship to their historical counterparts.
"But this is different!" Will always stream from their lips.

It's sad how they can at once tell themselves they would've been heroic fighters for justice against popular opinion then, and then demonize those who are fighting for people's rights in the here and now.

10. Sad. You know there isnt much of a memorial or comemorating plaque where that happened.
I lived in Tuscaloosa for 5 years and only realized where that happened in my last year there. You would think that would be a big thing to commemorate. Also is that the right type of plaque, Im not sure of how else to spell it?
