Great LTTE about a teabagger congress rep
After returning from an out of state trip, I was sorting my junk mail, which included all sorts of slick, multicolored brochures for ocean-going cruises, ads for telephone service and Internet services, etc. One of the multicolored pieces of junk mail was a four-page political message from Rep. Lynn Jenkins.

On the front was a color photo of the Jefferson Memorial. Inside was a color photo of the statue of Thomas Jefferson. Jenkins was using a selective quote from Jefferson to attempt to validate her anti-government philosophy. She was trying to make the voters receiving her brochure believe she was attuned to Jeffersonian principles.

Even though I am a senior citizen, I never knew Thomas Jefferson. But Rep. Jenkins, you are no Thomas Jefferson.

Jefferson was a leader of principle and progress. If Jenkins had been in Congress when Jefferson was president, she likely would have voted against the Louisiana Purchase as wasteful government spending and against the Lewis and Clark Expedition as meddling into private enterprise opportunities for French fur trappers.

Jenkins' record so far has been to vote "no" on all proposals from the administration, following blindly the Republican Party line.

She stuck her foot in her mouth with her "Great White Hope" comment, then made a non-apology apology to those "who may have been offended."

Here's hoping a Democrat will replace her.

3. well, she won by 5% last time around
hopefully, she's embarrassed her district enough that she'll lose in 2010.

4. Great line in the comments
no taxes, family values, anti-abortion rhetoric that will get any Republican elected in this ignorant, simple-minded state

5. And sadly, that is true in many states. Not just Kansas.

7. Shows how much republicans know about history
These so called "christians" pick Thomas Jefferson. He was an atheist or agnoistic...he is the one who inserted the separation of church and state in the constitution. In fact in some places we read most the founding fathers were not very religious.
