My theory of Palin mania...
There has been much talk about her lately & some people are having trouble understanding how the masses can willingly follow someone who's so clueless. It's not because she offers any REAL leadershp ability. What it's all about is power. Under Obama groups such as gays, blacks, hispanics, marijuana law reformers and the like have received recognition by the administration and have felt that they've started to become empowered. The Palin followers see this as a threat to the status quo and the "silent majority" which is white & heterosexual for the most part. The Palin followers have viewpoints of these groups like this:

Blacks - All welfare leeches...must be kept in their place which is subserviant to whites.

Hispanics - All welfare leeches, plus they are weird and different.

Muslims - All terrorists that must be deported.

Gays - Depraved lunatics that want to recruit children into their perverted lifestyle.

The Poor - Welfare leeches who are completely lazy and need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps.

Marijuana supporters - All dirty hippies who want to legalize a vile substance that will cause you to become depraved and commit violent crimes.

In short, this is backlash in response to their feelings of losing their entitlement to power and to keep the "deviants" under control.

Just my $.02

3. Well, I do recall her as being written off by many Dems early on...
Edited on Sun Nov-15-09 04:50 AM by dr.syntax
I recall many Dems writing her off as some pathetic loser as a
VP choice by McCain. I felt at the time this was wishful
thinking. As unappealing as she was to us Dems, I felt she had
a lot going for her as a GOP PERSONAGE. She was physically
attractive enough alone to gain a substantial following. I
consider her a very mediocre beauty at best. It does`nt take
much in the looks department to get some attention in the
National Political Scene. I think that is her big attraction
as pathetic as it is. And she comes across with all her DOWN
HOME BS and there you have it. A big hit on the American
political scene. Simple as that. ...Dr.Syntax

6. Welcome to DU
Good points on this Caribou Barbi wannabe.

She will be a never ending distraction as an appeal to the toothless, hateful, semi challenged sheep.

4. The sheep will follow someone who does not challenge them
And tells them all their beloved, hypocritical, and plain 'ol wrong "principles" are just dandy! Look how empowering it is for a preacher to tell someone that it's good to hate someone who is not like them!

5. As the economy continues to fail and unemployment
rises she will become more attractive to the masses. If corporations can control her, look out, she may become POTUS. Her performance so far would indicate that she might be the near perfect corporate stooge. She is consumed with social issues and totally unconcerned with domestic economic issues in that she doesn't understand them and her own welfare is the only thing of importance to her. She would be easy to buy off and control. Much easier than Obama, who is most likely considered too smart for his own good. Although, Obama's performance so far leaves the corporations with little to fear, and much to be desired, from their point of view.

7. Of course, conservative policies are also harshly anti-women.
Oblivious female Palinbots either don't know this or don't care, or both. Palin's anti-American attitudes apparently sail right over their heads as well. This is the path to a Government Of the Dumb.
