both kinds if they are available. I'm just getting over this stuff and it put me on my back for a week. I still feel awful, but I can drag myself to the computer now.

2. I hope you feel better too, but I'm not getting any flu shots.
I've never had a regular flu shot and I am not in the target group for the H1N1 which is in limited supply.

3. You are lucky if you have never had the flu.
If you ever have the flu you will wish you had taken the shot. If the get the H1N1 and die you will not have to worry about getting another shot.

20. 90% who die in a normal flu season are over 65. those who die from H1N1 are 90% UNDER 65
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 02:22 PM by HughMoran
Yes, killing kids in the prime of their lives IS a big deal. You'd know this if you had the facts and were remotely compassionate for the plight of other people and the children they are responsible for.

5. Just got my bacon lung shot!
I have a touch of asthma, that gets triggered by viral infections (in other words, if I catch a cold or flu, I'll be coughing and hacking for weeks, maybe months, and sometimes so violently it feels like I broke a rib). The doctor said I should go to the front of the line and get the shot, so I did.

18. I felt like George Costanza from Seinfeld getting the vaccine
Got my H1N1 last week due to Asthma. Doctor told me to do it.

Standing in line ahead of kids and pregnant women made me feel a little like George Costanza from "Seinfeld", but Doc said to do it.

Remember the episode where George starts pushing kids and women aside to get out of the burning apartment?

I've been getting the seasonal vaccine yearly for the last 15 + years and have not contracted it since.

24. I know what you mean.
Other than the touch of asthma, I'm decently healthy, so I felt kind of bad going to the front of the line and getting vaccinated with the high-risk people such as pregnant women and elderly folks & such.

Keep in mind that if you have asthma, you're high risk. If you get the flu, and it triggers your asthma, the asthma itself could kill you or put you in the hospital, or it could stop you from properly coughing out mucus and germs, so you end up like me, coughing and hacking for months, risking pneumonia, and feeling like crap for long periods of time.

I'm getting mine Tuesday
HR set up a flu shot clinic. Normally I get it at a drug or grocery store and pay the $30 but they've arranged for the insurance to cover it. I'm shocked they're doing this but in the long run it benefits them if no one gets sick.

Standard informed-consent, "this has some risk but is overall less risky than the alternative" documents, combined with the acknowledgment of privacy notification. No grand conspiratorial documents agreeing to nano-micro-RFID tagging or depopulation registration or anything. Weird, eh?

Because, my girlfriend, who works in a hospital, had to sign a paper, which removed the manufacturer from any liability.

She was pissed about it, because the hospital gave them a choice to get the shot or be terminated. Well, the first paper she signed was that she acknowledged that she was 'volunteering' to get the shot.

41. Were you given copies of what you signed?
Did you sign away your right to hold the manufacturer responsible, if something went wrong or was wrong with it being injected into your body?

Why does the manufacturer need people to sign away their right to sue them, if the product is safe to be injected into your body?

I didn't sign any of my rights away, so I hope you'll be okay, okay next week, okay next month, okay next year, okay in five years, etc. etc.

43. I was offered but declined a copy. However, there is a program to help pay for care/expenses...
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-laiv-h1n1.pdf
8 Vaccine injury compensation If you or your child has a reaction to the vaccine, your ability to sue is limited by law. However, a federal program has been created to help pay for the medical care and other specific expenses of certain persons who have a serious reaction to this vaccine. For more information about this program, call 1-888-275-4772 or visit the program’s website at http://www.hrsa.gov/countermeasurescomp/default.htm

44. "your ability to sue is limited by law"
"federal program has been created to help pay for the medical care and other specific expenses of certain persons who have a serious reaction to this vaccine."

In other words, you'll accept what the government feels is fair compensation for what the government can spare at the time, but you will not be going after the manufacturer, because the government will prevent you from doing that.

Like I said, I didn't sign any of my rights away, but I do hope you will be okay.

49. Don't worry about me, I don't get the flu, nor do I get flu shots.
And the government doesn't make me concede any of my rights to Corporate America.

I wonder if not getting the shot has something to do with not getting the flu. Maybe I'm one of those carriers they were talking about in the news, that doesn't actually come down with the flu, but still carries it around.

Thank you for your wishes.

52. This is something created in the aftermath of the 1976 vaccine clusterfuck.
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 05:53 PM by backscatter712
After a few people got Guillain-Barre Syndrome after that flu pandemic and the subsequent vaccine mess, Congress enacted legislation limiting liability to flu vaccine manufacturers (otherwise, nobody would make flu vaccines) and creating a vaccine injury compensation fund. In a nutshell, if something horrible happens to you because you got the flu vaccine, the .gov will pay for your treatment.

47. Speaking of paperwork related to the flu
Our clinic FINALLY got the H1N1 flu shot to give out to our immunosupressed patients.
The paperwork the patients have to fill out is way more extensive than the regular flu shot and we have to send a copy to the state. The patients have to give their name, address, age group...we have to fill out what the lot number is, what pharm company it came from, where we gave it (as in what part of the body), who gave it to them. Seems like there is a huge tracking system going on with the swine flu shot, more so than the seasonal shot.

The regular flu shot paper just had questions about egg allergies, fever over 100 degrees lately, or having ever been diagnosed with Guillen Barre Syndrome and then the patient signature...no copies to the state level.
