Where do you fall on the political spectrum?
If you had to categorize yourself politically, what would you say? And by this I don't mean just a generic descriptor (liberal, moderate, Democrat, Green, etc.), but also whatever shading or degree you feel best represents your ideas.

I'll start by describing myself as a Debsian socialist.

A request: I'm asking this out of a genuine curiosity for the range of beliefs here in DU, not to start a flame war; so please, just talk about yourself.

but on some things I am libertarian-leaning and on some things I am more of a socialist.

3. I grew up in a Canadian socialist household (CCF/NDP)

But 50-mumble years on, I'm a "communitarian anarchist". Politics is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

4. I dig that - Debsian Socialist
Permission to steal - er - share?

Otherwise a straight-up Marxist into Scandonavian-style Democracy. But that sounded more like a personals ad than a political thing.

I'm pretty far left personally, but recognize the reality of having to work with those who do not share my ideology.

11. Anarchist - aka Left-Libertarian
"Freedom is the absolute right of all adult men and women to seek permission for their actions only from their own conscience and reason, and to be determined in their actions only by their own will, and consequently to be responsible only to themselves, and then to the society to which they belong, but only insofar as they have made a free decision to belong to it." 15. I **used** to think I was a moderate liberal
The problem is, the country has moved so far to the right, that now I'm wack-job far lefty.

I'm betting there are lots of people to the left of me ....... I hope!

I also admit to getting more liberal as I get older.

19. anti-fascist is the best word/phrase I have come up with
Basically left libertarian, but not quite an anarchist. According to Political Compass I fall in the very bottom left corner (-8.5,-7.5 roughly). I haven't really ever found a good way to describe my politics, except to say anti-fascist. :)

20. "Longian" Leftist.
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 09:14 PM by anonymous171
I model my views after Huey Long. My leftism is based on the Bible and common sense, not Marxism. I believe that politics is a game that must be played for the benefit of the working man. If we lose we die, if we refuse to play, then we also die. We need to win and enslave the parasite class via taxes and regulation. There is no alternative. The rich must either "Share the Wealth" or face the consequences.

I am pretty isolationist on foreign policy. I am not particularly concerned with social policy, although I do believe that everyone has civil rights, including gays and that everyone has a right to quality healthcare, including women.

26. Liberal
Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 09:34 PM by HughMoran
No right-wing republican or lefty "progressive" is going to redefine that term for me. Liberals are for civil rights. Liberals are for freedom of speech. Liberals are anti-war. Liberals are for socialist-leaning reforms. Liberals are for progress. Period.

Edited on Sat Nov-14-09 10:17 PM by StarfarerBill
That's a fair indicator of your beliefs, as well.

Thanks to everyone who've already posted their results; wish I'd thought of it when I first made up this survey. :)

My results are:
Economic Left/Right: -9.88
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -8.41

That puts me waaaaaay down in the lower-left corner.
