Here's my reasoning: The only other democratic country with a larger population than the US is India. They have a parlimentary system, not directly electing a national figure like a President.

The 2008 Presidential election set an all time record for number of votes cast, including the most ever cast for one candidate.

Therefore, is it not correct to say that Barack Obama has gotten the support of more voters than any other single person in history?

However, given the size of the voting block against him, the claim could probably be made that Obama was also voted against by more voters than any other single person in history. (Short of looking up the actual numbers.)
