Bedwetters

I am waiting for all the bedwetters who live nowhere near New York City to start crying about how dangerous it is to put al-Qaeda suspects on trial in New York. Also, it is so unfair to put people on trial rather than just endlessly detaining them with no due process of law. Of all the issues facing this country, the one that irritates me the most is this issue of how to deal with Guantanamo Bay. A country that can send young people to die in the deserts of Iraq and the mountains of Afghanistan can ask its civilians to accept a small degree of risk to uphold the rule of law. I despise politicians who argue that we are a nation of cowards even as they cheerlead our imperial wars. If this country can't hold these trials, it is unworthy of not only respect, but fear. Is John Boehner right? Are we a nation of bedwetters? The president doesn't think so. I'm not sure. We shall see.

House Minority Leader John A. Boehner said the administration’s “irresponsible decision . . . puts the interests of liberal special interest groups before the safety and security of the American people. The possibility that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-conspirators could be found ‘not guilty’ due to some legal technicality just blocks from Ground Zero should give every American pause.”

1. first of all not all those that died that day were americans
second- putting him in the same court system that convicted the last twin tower mastermind is fitting. it sends a message to the world that we have a civil court system that is capable of giving a defendant their day in court.

third- boner and bitch should shut their mouths.

2. They interviewed some guy on BBC Newsnight, and he put forward traffic as a serious objection
I think they said this was someone who had a relative die in the WTC (but I'm not 100% sure about that), and his objection to a trial in NYC was that it'd cause really bad traffic jams. Yeah, stuff the American Constitution, the rule of law, things like that - cars might get held up.

3. I'm very happy they're following the Constitution
basically to the letter. I thought there RW people were all over the place demanding the Constitution be followed to the letter. What happened to that?

I'm sure New Yorkers can handle it, ask anyone there :) If they are found "not guilty" then we'll have to revisit the entire case, won't we? I agree, though, it should give every American pause, when we've served up de facto death sentences to Afghan children like it's the milk line in a kindergarten class.

6th Amendment:
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

4. Why insult enuretics?
Those who have never suffered from enuresis have no clue of the emotional toll it takes.
