Oreo (abused pit bull) Is Dead
Oreo, a dog that was nursed back to health after surviving being thrown off the roof of a six-story building, was killed Friday by lethal injection.

A 2-year-old pit bull, Oreo was euthanized in the New York City headquarters of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, after the organization rebuffed last-minute pleas to spare her life. The organization called the dog a danger to the public.

On Friday morning, Oreo received a last meal of “premium quality” kibble and canned dog food. She was then given a sedative, though she appeared “content, alert and panting,” according to an organization spokesman. Oreo was injected in the leg with an overdose of sodium pentobarbital and was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

This makes me both sad and angry.

4. Did they execute the piece of shit who threw her off the roof?
Not saying I'm a fan of the death penalty in general, but I'd say he deserved it more than the dog. :grr:

5. They did everything they could to save her
but found she just wasn't an adoptable animal.

Her last memories are of being cared for. It's not a bad way to go.

9. It's not really the rescue outfit I am disgusted with
but the jerk who abused her to begin with.

6. I think of my dogs

and how I would do anything for them, and then I read about an asshole who did something like this to an innocent dog, yet the dog pays for it with her life.

7. I can't help but think that those ASCPA people a little too trigger happy to put animals down
I've seen Animal Precinct on Animal Planet, and it just seems like they opt for putting the dogs to sleep more often than they should.

8. I thought the ASPCA was in the business of saving dogs
Not killing them.

Im surprised at the amount of dogs they have euthanized.

11. Sad. But if she was as aggressive as they claim...
she needed to be put down.

Attacking her own handler didn't help her cause.

12. She 'was... difficult to control and "unpredictably aggressive", according to' the ASPCA spokesman.

They obviously temperament tested the bitch and she failed. I've worked in rescue and you can't save them all.
Any rescue organization, much less the ASPCA, would totally negligent to allow an animal that was found to be
aggressive to be adopted out to the public or be released to a sanctuary.

14. Hmmm...dog was tossed in July, this is November.
Considering that the dog had to heal from such physical abuse, I don't believe that they gave her enough of a chance.

I'd have welcomed her to my rescue and worked with her for far longer before making that decision.

I'm sorry, Oreo.

15. I'm with you.
Given the pain and trauma she endured it would be no surprise that she'd need extra time to be rehabilitated. I think they were too quick with the needle. Unfortunately, the article doesn't give specifics of her "unpredictable aggression."

Blessed be, Oreo.
