What Will Republicans Do if Health Care Passes?
My guess is they'll continue to whine and be the party of 'no'.

What Will Republicans Do if Health Care Passes?

Ron Brownstein notes that if President Obama does sign a health care reform bill, "which appears more likely than not, Republicans will face a momentous choice between consolidation and repudiation -- between accepting the new program and seeking to dismantle it. The alternative paths are neatly captured by the GOP's contrasting reactions to the two central cords of America's existing social safety net."

"After FDR got Social Security approved in 1935, Alf Landon, his Republican challenger in 1936, denounced it... Roosevelt's landslide victory over Landon (and subsequent re-elections) provided Social Security the time to build impregnable support..."

"By contrast, Republicans largely accepted Medicare soon after President Johnson signed it into law in 1965."

3. Sign up for it
Like they do for Social Security and Medicare when they become eligible. Then they will go right back to bad-mouthing the evils of socialism and big gub'mint.

7. Exactly!
They're not about to be left out of something good, even if it goes against their "political philosophy."

To paraphrase Cpt. Renault in Casablanca:

I'm shocked! Shocked to learn the Congress has passed the Democrats' health-care plan!
Your application, sir
Oh, thank you...

Rick: And remember, this gun is pointed right at your heart.
Captain Renault: That is my *least* vulnerable spot. Until the Dems passed health-care reform. Now I can seek medical help in making by "least vulnerable spot" stronger and healthier!

5. You know...
the guy drinks, smokes cigars, doesn't exercise, is obese and has a drug problem and a serious anger problem. He's in his 50s at least. I really really am kind of surprised he's never had a cardiac event, most guys I know with those kinds of layered issues are either dead or very restricted by diabetes or heart disease by his age.

It's almost impressive.

6. I wouldn't change his lifesyle one iota.

Not even if I could.

If I could afford it I'd have a bucket of KFC delivered to his door every day of the year.

8. They will immediately begin attacking the consumer protections...
Of course, they will leave the mandate alone.
