Republican-White-Christian Votes Declining
Why Republicans Should Be Really, Really Scared
by: dreaminonempty
Fri Nov 13, 2009 at 08:00

In one of the first diaries of this series, we noted that 90% of John McCain's votes came from white voters. More specifically though, 83% of John McCain's votes came from white Christian voters. As a proportion of the electorate, we saw whites are declining. But guess what? So are Christians, slowly but steadily. Here's how that looks:

3. Before you leave, your friends have apparently only been awake since Jan. One needs only to look at
the percentage of the national debt that came into being under GOP presidents to understand their 'new' concern with spending. And ask them if they wouldn't mind cutting the DOD budget by 2/3's.

18. no... it's the moderate motor mouths and right wing assholes
who have fucked up the country, and we liberals are the ONLY ones with the BALLs to do something about it for EVERYONE, and not just for our selves. A concept you losers can't grasp.

You are not only a deluded nut, you are woefully ignorant.

9. "The spending has to stop"
well, I'll agree that some spending needs to stop.

Wall Street, Military Industrial Complex, etc.

But in actuality, we aren't nearly out of the woods yet. We need to INCREASE spending, especially on new energy projects, infrastructure, small business loans at 0% interest.

Probably another 1 Trillion dollars, maybe more.

This time, the spending needs to directly create jobs.

Stop spending and we cycle down to another depression.

Edited on Fri Nov-13-09 10:19 AM by Wapsie B
That'd give us one helluva healthcare reform. Funny how what the gop spends isn't looked on as an expense at all.

24. Not to mention, repugs never included the cost of the wars in their budget, Obama does!
If they would include every bit of spending they would find that their budget was much bigger than they let on.

I am tired of stupid people for whom the world began in January. The Republicans have wrecked this country and people want to give it right back to them because "the spending has to stop"? Where was that 8 years ago when the spending and killing were about to begin? Right, nothing existed prior to the evil Democratic take over.

28. You're right. Wars don't cost anything. Untold fortunes thrown down the Pentagon rathole don't exist
don't exist. Only those evil welfare mothers and social programs cost money. Everything else is an investment. :sarcasm:

25. it must suck to have friends who are so misinformed
The spending they complain about predates Obama and is necessary because of crappy management from the GOP for so many years. If they don't get that, then they need to pay attention better. I won't hold my breath.

27. Yeah -- I agree. The spending has to stop. Slash the military budget to the bone!
That will save countless billions that can be put to good use providing food, shelter and healthcare for Americans.

4. Surprised McAnus got any 'not affiliated' votes at all
but if you took everything I DON'T know about human nature & put it in a book, it'd be coffee table-worthy.

One thing remains constant while the demographics of the nation change, however: the top fractional percentage of wealth remains lily-white, and until that changes, conservatism will not go quietly into that good night. Seems that every time a non-white person starts accumulating wealth, power & influence, the media latch on like a pit bull and attempt to drag that person down with every means at their disposal. I can only surmise that Oprah Winfrey is not considered a threat - otherwise, she'd have been attacked unmercifully a long time ago (maybe that was what the Texas beef association was attempting with that lawsuit?).

14. I find the fact that there's a line of Buddhist votes staggering
because everything out of that man's mouth was contrary to Buddha nature.

The evangelical Christian vote is not surprising. However, since a lot of those folks bought into prosperity theology and that was shown to be a lie, their numbers will start decreasing sharply.

Those were mostly Randroids voting for a Republican instead of a libertarian trying to prevent a Democratic party candidate winning.

17. Either Brownstein or Cooke explains it this way.
In reality people are leaving Democrats but they are calling
themselves Independent. Majority.

People are angry. When people are angry they are operating
at an emotional level. Their mindset becomes VOTE AGAINST
as opposed to vote for. Their anger and Vote Against mentality
is directed at whomever happens to be in office. INCUMBENCY.
Democrats are seen as Incumbents. Remember when they vote
or say they will vote GOP it is not because they are for
the Republicans and their philosophy, they are against present
Incumbents. Anger is clouding their judgement.

No one and I mean no one has been out there making the case
and selling the Democratic Side. If you do not market and
sell your ideals and vision, it is assumed you have none.
