Burglars kill sheepdog in South Bend robbery
SOUTH BEND — Mid-afternoon on Monday, Dan Warner came home from work to find his beloved Old English Sheepdog shot dead in his kitchen.

Warner's home on Bonds Avenue had been ransacked by burglars, and eight-year-old Linus was cold and bloody beneath blankets and sheets at the foot of the kitchen sink.

Warner wept beside the dog and held him until police arrived, he said Thursday, wiping tears from his eyes.

The burglars took a television, computer, jewelry and cash and shot Linus.

“These aren't people stealing to eat or stealing to keep their home,” Warner said. “These people are monsters.”

Warner believes Linus greeted the burglars with his favorite toys, hoping to play.

2. ... this is my biggest fear, also ...
...i've been broken into and thankfully they just locked my 2 senior beagles (harmless but very noisy when a stranger's in the house) in a bedroom while they apparently went thru the rest of the place. But i fear as crazy as people are getting, since I don't have anything left to steal, one of these times they're going to get pissed and do something stupid to the dogs, who are my kids.

3. This is just so sad.
I was going to post a snarky comment about arming dogs, but this is just too tragic.

4. My big dopey dog would get excited and want to play with intruders--
he loves everybody (my little dog, not so much). Poor Linus was probably the same way. They didn't have to shoot him--hope those bastards burn in hell.

10. I wonder why the crook(s) covered the dog's body?
Maybe at least one of them found the carcass offensive so it was covered up.

It shows that he may have a conscience and if not caught by the law we can at least hope he's haunted for life by his awful deeds.
