Miracle Whip Gunning for Stephen Colbert

Miracle Whip is going after Stephen Colbert, after the Comedy Central star made fun of its "Don't Be So Mayo" ad campaign.

The condiment company has purportedly purchased every commercial during Thursday's "Colbert Report" and taken out an open-letter newspaper ad to Colbert saying "we will dominate the airspace on your show ... we will own you."

This comes after Colbert "popped open a jar of mayo whup-ass" during his Oct. 15 show.

The Miracle Whip team seems ready to up the ante in this condiment contest.

"With every commercial break, your viewers will be exposed to hardcore Miracle Whip attitude and revelry. You will see our legion of (as you call them) 'mayo nay-sayers' snarfing sandwiches topped with our one-of-a-kind flavor in a very cool and totally hip way," the newspaper ad which appeared in Red Eye says. "They will be in your face and massively dope. It goes without saying, they WILL NOT TONE IT DOWN. And you will begin to see the soft, bland white walls of the mayo empire begin to collapse under the weight of its own whipped-egg pretentiousness."

1. This is going to be fun...
...a very Colbert-esque, tongue-in-cheeck, faux-outrage battle of wits.

I'm for mayo, myself, but I love Miracle Whip's attitude in this -- and I'll bet Colbert's producers are grinning all the way to the bank. :D

27. Indeed. Wonder If the Whole Thing Was Planned From the Start...
...or if they just saw Colbert's bit and ran with it?

4. Miracle Whip is too sweet
as is low fat and no fat "Mayonnaise" which is as sweet as Miracle Whip. Perhaps the extra sugar is supposed to give it some taste to make up for the missing fat ingredients. I wonder if the fatless stuff has no eggs either?

11. It's expensive, but if you just gotta have mayo I'd recommend Nayonnaise.
ALL fats are bad for you in quantities beyond what naturally exist in your food, but if you want to splurge on something that's extremely tasty and free of saturated fat, check out Nayonnaise. Whole Foods carries it, but since they've turned into a bunch of assholes you can always check local health and natural food stores for it. Good stuff, seriously!

25. Thanks for the review.
I have seen Nayonnaise in most of the supermarkets around here but I didn't know anyone who used it and could let me know if it were any good. I am vegan and currently use Vegannaise which is delicious and to me tastes exactly like mayo but I have to go to the health food store to get it. I will certainly try the Nayonnaise next time when I run out. Thanks. :hi:

17. I don't like it, either
But it makes an outstanding chocolate cake...go figure.

Btw, you might try Kraft reduced fat mayo with olive oil. It isn't sweet at all, has a good consistency and tastes like regular mayo. Good stuff.

Edit: Plus I dislike the taste of miracle whip, but good for them for having a sense of humor at least.

16. Do you not know a "buzz" campaign when you see one?
This entire thing is a setup, from Stephen's initial "attack" to tonight's commercial "assault."

It is so awkward and forced, it could only be a Kraft marketing campaign.

It is, after all, Kraft - one of the world's largest food companies. They don't take chances and they don't work off the cuff.

You don't have to believe me, because I won't say why I'm so credible. But you should.

Even the very talented and extremely annoying "Altoids" genius Steffan Posteur, who has Kraft as a client (but whose agency did not do this campaign) has been taken in by this clumsy attempt at guerilla marketing.

Which just goes to prove what I always say: there is no one more gullible than an adman.

29. Of course it is.
Are there really people who think it isn't? I guess so. Probably the same people who think Kanye West's antics at the VMAs weren't staged.

Doesn't mean it isn't good entertainment but very, very few things on television aren't planned and scripted.

Isn't that the whole friggin' raison d'etre of Miracle Whip-watered down, sweetened up mayonaise?
