Question re: California tax refunds...

Apologies if this is the wrong forum...

I was expecting a $1500 refund from California to be direct deposited.

Today I got a paper check (that is clearly a real check, not a "do not deposit" receipt like a pay-stub) for around $400 from CA.

WTF is going on here?

1. Sounds like they decided you owed them money for something, and they took it from you.

It can be a back parking ticket, jay walking ticket, what have you... add interest... and then shake you down. When the state gets desperate for money... they begin nickle and diming everyone in sight. Then they send the CHP out to give as many tickets as possible...

I lived in California for one year. No tickets or violations of any kind at all.
