Does Any Insurance Policy covered by the Federal Gov't Cover Elective Abortions?
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 06:37 PM by berni_mccoy
I just saw this article on the home page about how the RNC Health Insurance policy covers elective abortions: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4144670

The thought occurred to me. There are plenty of government workers whose Health Insurance policy is paid for by the government. There are also plenty of people on programs like Tricare and other public plans. Do any of these cover elective Abortions?

If so, aren't these a violation of the Hyde Amendment?

If so, where is the outrage on these by Stupak et al?

3. Annnnnnnnd....
Since the republican "plan" for reform essentially leaves the current health insurance delivery system in place, it continues to cover abortions for everyone.

4. Government workers health insurance premiums are payroll deducted -
- the funds come from the employee's salary as with all other payroll deducted plans, not from tax or federal dollars. There are numerous different health plans available to government employees so I don't know if any or how many would cover abortion.

5. I just checked FEP Blue Cross/Blue Shield site
And I quote:
Procedures, services, drugs, and supplies related to abortions except when the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term or when the pregnancy is the result of an act of rape or incest
So I would say no they do not.

6. Federal employee plans do not
At least none of the ones available in the DC area, except for life of mother.

TriCare does not, except for life of mother.

Military does not, except for life of mother.
