2. He's becoming the poster-boy for everything the Freeptards hate ...
... a nonwhite "Muslin" in the US military who has contact with al Queida, possibly gay or closet gay with AIDs ... next thing you know we're going to find out he went to school in Indonesia or volunteered with a community organizing group in Chicago.

Umm, IF he was HIV positive, and that has yet to be confirmed...

...walking into a building and firing off rounds sounds to me like he wanted his blood spread around.

God, what an awful thought. Let's hope this one isn't true. It's bad enough just the way it is.

25. That was quite an intellectual leap you just made there.
Reminds me of when the right wing/Fox News was spreading the scare tactic that Al Qaeda was actively recruiting HIV+ suicide bombers so that when their bodies exploded, they would spread the virus.

6. Fear-mongering and bigotry that only perpetuates the stigma associated with HIV.
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 02:48 PM by JackBeck
Just because someone is taking HIV meds doesn't mean they are at death's door. HIV is now a chronic, manageable illness.

What's next? He must have been gay because of his status? HIV has always been a virus that predominately infects heterosexuals.

And people really need to learn the distinction between HIV and an AIDS diagnosis. We're almost 30 years into this epidemic.

What everyone should take away from this is that HIV doesn't discriminate.

16. We had an Army Captain attend our training for a couple of hours in Augusta this week.
And we were going to ask her that privately, but yeah, I think you're right. We weren't sure if they only get tested when they join, or if there are also periodic tests while they are enlisted.

14. the army and hiv
Human Immunodeficiency Virus

The Army's policy, procedures, and guidance for soldiers infected with HIV are contained in AR 600-110, Identification, Surveillance, and Administration of Personnel Infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

All soldiers are required to be tested for the presence of HIV antibodies at least biennially. The biennial testing is keyed to birth month screening and is monitored by the personnel service battalion/military personnel division.

Soldiers who receive OCONUS assignment instructions, or are scheduled for an OCONUS TDY that will exceed 179 days, must have tested negative within six months of the departure date.

Soldiers who are HIV-positive will not be deployed (PCS or TDY) OCONUS. Soldiers serving OCONUS who are confirmed as HIV positive will be expeditiously reassigned to CONUS.

Soldiers confirmed as HIV-positive in CONUS will be indefinitely stabilized at their current duty station. They will be awarded an AEA code of "B" without a termination date. These soldiers remain eligible for other CONUS assignments in accordance with the needs of the Army and PCS policies.

18. @MikeinSanDiegeo:
Combivir already contains AZT, but it's now called Retrovir (zidovudine).

Anyone who works with clients on meds or is on HAART themselves knows that you would never take extra Retrovir, or any of the meds for that matter, due to the added side effects. It doesn't make sense that Hasan would have both Combivir plus extra Retrovir.

It's none of our business.

Yes, he will be held to account for his crimes, but is his medical history any of the general population's business? I vote NO.
