ABC cancels Kelsey Grammer's "Hank" effective immediately.
NEW YORK — ABC's cancellation of the comedy "Hank" makes it two failures in three years for star Kelsey Grammer.

Grammer, the multiple Emmy winner as the star of "Frasier," also saw his Fox series "Back to You" with Patricia Heaton given the boot in the spring of 2008. At least it made a full season: "Hank" didn't make two months. The Nielsen Co. said the show averaged 6.7 million viewers each week.

Its fate seemed sealed recently when ABC announced it was ordering a full season's worth of episodes for its three other new Wednesday night comedies. They include old colleague Heaton's sitcom "The Middle," ABC's biggest Wednesday hit, "Modern Family" and "Cougar Town."

ABC says Grammer's 8 p.m. time slot will be filled by "Modern Family" reruns and holiday specials over the next several weeks.

I loved Fraiser, so I gave "Hank" a try on its first episode and it was horrendous.

Eventually Hollywood will realize how much he sucks and quit giving him so many second, third and fourth chances.

3. It was truly horrible.
Canned laugh track on unfunny jokes.

Although I love Modern Family.

4. Schadenfreuden (or whatever) Both Grammer and Heaton are big old Repugs
I loved the ole Frazier show, too. Too bad he's an asshole. And SHE was in the don'tpulltheplugonSchavo thing.

5. I gave it a try, too, and it was painful to watch. The Middle and Modern Family,
however, have me reduced to helpless tears of laughter. Glad to see they're sticking around. :hi:

7. I watched the first show
and barely made it through. It was truly awful. I really like "The Middle," even though it does star Repug Heaton.

8. since I found out he is a repub - I have been less likely to watch anything
he is in - definitely not going to a movie and supporting his paycheck - if it is good there is always video from library which is not directly supporting him

Good for him.

Now exit, stage right.

10. I enjoyed Grammer on "Cheers" and "Frazier"
but his politics make watching either show today more of a chore. If it weren't for the other people in them, I probably wouldn't watch.

Good riddance to the new one, I say. I didn't watch it because I don't want to support right wingers if at all possible.

11. It's not necessarily that Kelsey Grammar sucks - most often it is that the writers suck.

12. This is a bit off-topic...
But, I always thought a remake of "The Odd Couple" with Kelsey Grammar and David Ogden Stiers would have been a hoot! Imagine this for the plot:

Two professor are hired at the same time for positions at an ivy-league university. One is a professor of literature the other philosophy. They both intend on securing faculty housing at the university but due to a screw-up, they both get assigned to one apartment. They don't realize this until they arrive, and it's too late to change due to lack of housing units, so they both have to share the apartment for at least the first academic year.

Anyway, since both actors have have done well as snooty, egotistical intellectuals (Stiers as "Dr. Winchester" in "M*A*S*H, and Grammar as "Dr. Crane" in "Cheers), they could constantly be trying to one-up the other in a battle of wits.

Anyway, I think it would have been a riot!

It might have been best to make this series during the early to mid-1990s.

19. I believe David Ogden Stiers is a much better actor than Grammer
as I've seen a much broader range in his acting than what I've seen from Grammer. I also doubt that his personal politics are anywhere near as RW as Grammer's. As an aside of my own, I just looked at David Ogden Stiers' Wikipedia page, which says he 'came out' in May of this year. Congrats!

13. ONe would think that being a repuke and so experienced with lying, these washed-up hacks
would be better actors.

Maybe the answer is that they are deluded and actually believe the garbage spewed by the rethugs and thus, when they repeat the bilge, they think they are telling the truth.

So, they really can't act.

14. Kelsey Grammer fancies himself quite the thespian
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 12:53 PM by Cirque du So-What
and his acting talents enable him to emote in the entire range from pompous ass to insufferable bastard. I never quite 'got' why people raved about his characters; they're all pretty much the same snobbish twit as his real-life persona.

18. I Don't Think Anyone Ever Claimed He Had an Extensive Range.

I think he's extremely good at what he does. Frasier Crane was a brilliant character on Cheers and Frasier, and that was in large part due to Grammer. He was also fantastic as Sideshow Bob on the Simpsons.

To Grammer's credit, he seems to know what he's capable of playing, and what he's not. I suspect his last two efforts failed due to crappy writing more than anything else. I didn't see them, so I couldn't say for sure.

In any case, I enjoy Grammer for what he does, but he certainly seems like a complete jackass in his personal life. I'm happy to watch him on screen, but I wouldn't invite him for dinner.

20. He sucked in everything he was in since Cheers
and the only reason he didn't suck there was that they used his pompous ass of a character (which really wasn't much of a stretch for him) as an object of ridicule. I never saw two people more deserving of an ass kicking than him and his snotty little brother in Frasier. If I had been their old man I would have shot them both (or myself).

22. I never saw Hank but I think Cougar Town is really stupid and juvenile.
It's too bad because actress Courtney Cox deserves better, but I can't watch it more than five minutes. It only proves that it's the writers who should be getting the big salaries. The actors can't really help bad writing out that much, sort of like trying to put lipstick on a pig.
