1,200 Laid-off GM Workers Being Recalled
http://www.wilx.com/news/headlines/69779162.html

About 1,200 laid off workers at GM's Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant will go back to work next Tuesday, November 17. GM spokesperson Heidi Magyar says workers should report "at their regular scheduled time unless otherwise notified."

The second shift workers are the remaining employees who were laid off at the plant because of a parts shortage. A strike at a plant in India interrupted the supply of a transmission part.

The layoff began for both shifts on November 2. The first shift was recalled this past Monday.

2. Although this is excellent, it's not quite what one might think
The layoff has only been in effect for a few weeks, and was due to logistics problems, not slack demand. These workers were already recalled to work earlier this fall.

The underlying story is better than the headline story.

I drive past that plant twice a week. It's a beauty, and the Lansing workforce is among GM's best in terms of productivity and total cost of labor.
