Progressives for the good old days?
In the good old days before civil rights, before Medicare, the Department of Education, Equal Opportunity, voting rights and the Clean Air Act.

I guess all those things ruined it for us.

In the good old days when teachers had to work three jobs to make a decent living? When unemployment in the black community was 50 percent?

You can keep the good old days. This is just the kind of mentality that obstructs progress. Yes, I have fond memories of the past, but there are also things about it that I would never want to relive.

You can't have it both ways. You can't rail against the military industrial complex and the Prescott Bush's of the world, and long for the good old days.

1. I think when progressives talk about that, they're referring to pre-Reagan days.
For myself, I agree that looking backward isn't helpful to progressivism, except as it may show how we move forward. But I certainly acknowledge that the past couple decades haven't exactly been high-water marks in American history.

3. It's completely unhelpful
Not repeating the mistakes of the past is progressive. Even the Reagan era is a teachable moment, but it does not offer any opportunity to long for the past. What it should do is offer people an opportunity to determine how to prevent it from happening again.

4. Are women's reproductive rights a "mistake of the past"???
How do you justify your support of the House HCR bill with the Stupak Amendment??? You ought be ashamed.

2. Soon the "good old days" will include when womens' reproductive freedom...
was advancing, instead with the stupak amendment, "progressives" have tossed decades of improvement under the bus just to pass a lousy bill to insure the insurance industry will continue to see huge profits in the decades to come!! good job!!!

6. What good is Roe-v-Wade, if abortion can not be paid for???
This house HCR bill will effectively do just that. How in good conscience can you support it?

8. Right,
Stupak is equal to the repeal of Roe v. Wade. Don't be stupid.

Stupak isn't a law.

9. That is not what I said.
Do you disagree that Stupak will have the effect of denying reproductive health care to low and moderate income women??? And you seem quit alright with allowing stupak to become law, just for a fancy Rose Garden bill signing. Right? You do support the House bill, even with Stupak, correct???
