"many of whom have never been held "
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 09:57 AM by Are_grits_groceries
Somebody to love?

Local rescue teams are providing foster homes for "surplus" dogs from Missouri puppy mills, many of whom have never been held and suffer from psychological and physical ailments.

This is a link to slides about the rescue when they meet their foster families. Get the tissues.

Every damn puppy mill should be CLOSED!

5. They're not really that bad
They're heartwarming actually. Sad, but full of hope and kindness.

God bless all those people who are fostering these dogs.

2. There must be a way...
to save these pups without letting those breeders off the hook.

I understand the agreement to not disclose their names, but :wtf: !! They'll all just keep on going with this awful "business".

Shut 'em down, IMPRISON these "breeders"!

And if you give to even one, even once, be prepared to be besieged and flooded with mail requests from every other animal and wildlife charity that exists, but the cause is worth it.

4. around here the news reported this woman finding thirty dogs she believed was from a puppy mill.
they were flea infested and at least five were pregnant. she apparently would find a dog here or there from a puppy mill and would take care of them and then find them homes, i guess.... but thirty was more than she could handle. They have given the owners a few days to claim the animals... but we all know that isn't going to happen. then they might be found out. It breaks my heart to hear of this kind of stuff. The vindictive part of me would like to see people who do this kind of thing be stuck in cages and treated as poorly as they have treated these poor animals.

They should be shut down. We also need to do better at educating the general public about this issue so they won't shop at pet stores

8. One more kick
Seems maybe DU is better at appreciating animals who already have loving homes (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6992696&mesg_id=6992696 - 6000+ views, 200+ recs) than trying to raise awareness for those that don't.

10. I don't know either.
If I went to one of those places, I would want to beat the ever living shit out of anybody responsible.
