Top Obama aides meet with women's groups and also with faith groups....
on the issue of the Stupak amendment.

Top WH Aides Sitting Down With Women's Groups, Faith Leaders On Stupak

Women's rights groups enraged over the Stupak amendment included in the House health care bill passed Saturday got some time with Obama administration officials today, but the president's aides also will be huddling with faith groups as the negotiations continue.

As we reported earlier, the head of the National Organization for Women went to the White House to voice her dismay over the last-minute deal to vote on the amendment.

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel was among the expected attendees, but Obama did not attend.

I am a little concerned over the faith group huddling. I would like to see government not get so involved with religion.

1. let's see--women are getting thrown under the bus--but we have to placate the damned religious
groups, because, after all, they are far more important than women.

2. The fact that Obama didn't meet with NOW but sent Rahm is troubling.
Rahm is probably furious about NOW"s announcement that it will fund primary challengers in the fall to any pro life dem and any dem who voted for Stupak. Rham was being sent to threaten NOW I am sure. But after the NPR interview I heard, the NOW President will NOT back down . And she said that the funding of the candidates was only part of the strategy that NOW had for ridding the congress of these buffoons that were handpicked by Emmanuel.

And again, why are we kissing the butt of the Faith leaders? Oh . right. To maintain a majority that doesn't represent us.

4. I hope NOW kicks his ass.
:grr:

You are right, sending him is a bad sign. I sends the message that women are not Obama's concern.

3. meeting with faith groups bothers me too.
Obama is much more cozy with the religious right than with the feminist left, but the left is his base. We need more separation of church and state, not less, so we certainly do not need our president meeting with faith groups about policy. :(

5. Wow. There are unrecs to this? Why? Does the truth bother them that much?

8. "Faith groups" should STFU and GO back to their churches
& let the faithful come to them on Sundays and Bible study...and leave the governing to the legislature..

and we should STOP giving money to these bastards that just poke sticks into the spokes, while grabbing federal dollars from ALL of us, while they spend "their" money on their preachy-stuff..

9. WH spokesman as much as gave separation between the two groups.
"As part of our ongoing outreach surrounding health insurance reform, staff met with today with representatives of the women's rights community. Staff will also be meeting in coming days with leaders from communities of faith and other groups involved in the effort," said White House spokesman Reid Cherlin."

Women's rights group have people of faith. It is not either or which that statement advances. Am I nitpicking? Perhaps...but the way things are going women appear to have lesser status.

However women really are an important party constituent...."faith groups" should not be considered that way.

It gives religion too high an importance in government.

BTW love your pictures.
