Can We Try and Get Phil Donahue Back on MSNBC?
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 09:44 PM by romantico
Phil's show on MSNBC was doing great and had pretty good ratings and yet they canned him during the lead up to the Iraq war in 2003. I would love to see Phil back on TV.I think people who are familiar with him and know him and trust him will tune in. Most of all he is such the opposite of what FOX has lined up, I would guess he would be more popular now than ever. Thoughts?

7. Me too, but I think Laurence might be the guy since Thom has launched
his own TV show on DishTV.

13. Why not both?
Better yet, spread it out over the NBC affiliates. Open the world to more than what is restricted under cable...

5. I understand that a big part of the problem was him having a
live studio audience. Never mind that Bush's fake popularity and the White House were directing the cable channels on content. (It's been documented for any lurking tea bagger, who might want to object.) But mainly it wasn't affordable for MSNBC or they might have kept him on in spite of the unpopularity of liberals among the producers then. Maybe if he's willing to do a show in a studio that is empty other than the crew, MSNBC might be delighted to have him back.

10. Agreed, but not the one on one show he did before on MSNBC
He does best with an audience and several guests on at the same time.

14. I
I think Phil would have plenty to say about these tea baggers and Glen Beck and the rest of them. Who knows, maybe Phil is enjoying life and not interested. However, he did do a documentary about a year ago and he still has that political passion that I never grow tired of seeing.Hell, I'd love to see Dan Rather anchor the daytime news on CNN or MSNBC. I guess I am annoyed with the newer faces of news and am comfortable seeing older faces I have grown to know and trust.

I used to really enjoy his show in the morning in the 80s. I think he did a lot to get people talking about things.

in favor of cheering on the wars. They admitted they needed to compete with Fox. What a HUGE mistake that was. I would love to see him back on the air on a regular basis. He was always my favorite....since his days in Chicago. Maybe he could replace Lou Dobbs on CNN? What a pleasant change THAT would be.

23. Last time I watched a panel of___ on CSPAN (about Bushco) Phil was almost Chomsky-esque
Edited on Thu Nov-12-09 05:00 PM by Echo In Light
Pulled no punches and was quite unapologetic in his critique of America's foreign and domestic policies. This was some yrs back, so I don't remember what the convention was exactly. Professor/author/social critic, Mark Crispin Miller devoted some time in his book, Cruel & Unusual, to NBC's strategic, ideologically based decision to can Donahue during the run up to the Aggression/invasion also.

He should get an afternoon time slot opposite Oprah. He could actually discuss the pressing issues.
