Breaking On Rachel Maddow: AP Says Obama Has Rejected All Afghanistan Options Given To Him
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 09:16 PM by Hissyspit
Breaking news. Obama has rejected four options given to him by his National Security Team. Wants non-open-ended strategy.

1. Apparently they gave him 8 options and they all sucked?
Here's option #9: End this bullshit NOW, and bring em all home.

2. Commitment to Afghanistan is NOT open-ended.
Good. So he'll announce a strategy and end game, providing an end date, I hope.

19. Please explain the logic of that.
This is like the Princess and the Pea. No, I don't like that one. Nope, that won't do either. Nope, nope, nope.

If he's a leader, he should come up with a decision himself, instead of expecting them to come to him on silver platters for him to finally pick the right one. That's not leadership. That's not even delegation. Hell, it's barely even SHOPPING.

3. Jon Stewart did a good bit relating the USSR and US
The final straw in the series of similarities for me was the war in Afghanistan.

Basically, he showed -in his way- that we are following the USSR into ruin. How they behaved arrogantly on the world stage. They had terminal economic sickness. etc.

Many were not sad to see the USSR implode.

17. IMO the inclusive use of "we" isn't accurate
Edited on Wed Nov-11-09 10:13 PM by noise
The whole thing is secret. Propaganda is used to convince the public that failing to support the secret policy is the same thing as not supporting soldiers. IOW, many politicians hide behind soldiers. How do you honor soldiers by allowing policy makers to prolong occupations based on secret policy agendas?

What better way to honor volunteer soldiers than by holding the policy makers to the highest standard possible? Letting them spin us all the time isn't a high enough standard. Pretending (as Stewart appears to do) that the policy simply must be based in good faith isn't impressive either. We recently learned that Karzai's corrupt brother has been on the CIA payroll. Yet other news outlets tell us that Karzai needs to clean up his act. This is absurd.

6. you could tell that he was troubled by the thoughts about sending more
He paced throughout Arlington today and has met with the families of soldiers as their bodies returned to Dover.

Nice to see a CiC THINKING about his actions.

7. We are not going to have an indefinite commitment
translation. we are going to pull out.

Even Hersh is hinting at this... and also about the sub-rosa conflict between the ring knockers and the non ring knockers. (West Point vs NON West Point)

14. Correct decision.
Stand back. The threat is to secure Pakistani nukes. Karzai is unstable and corrupt. Strike deals with area leaders in each region to stabilize the country.

15. So it takes seeing caskets for Obama to get real?
If he did not know long ago since he did express he did not support the war way back then he does not know now either.

This news is from GE owned networks so I take it for what it's worth.

16. Where was this version of Obama when we needed leadership on insurance reform?
I mean, good on our President for stepping up and trying to do right by our troops, but back on the homefront, we're saddled with a House reform bill that's got Democrats at each other's throats.
