Lou Dobbs To Depart CNN



New York Times' Media Decoder blog is reporting that CNN anchor Lou Dobbs -- who has been the target of furious protests over his immigration coverage -- is leaving CNN.

Times reporter Brian Stelter tweeted on Wednesday evening, "NYT learns that Lou Dobbs' resignation is effective immediately; tonight’s program will be his last on CNN." Another message sent shortly afterwards: "A Fox spokesperson tells the NYT, 'We have not had any discussions with Lou Dobbs for Fox News or Fox Business.'"

"New York (CNN) -- CNN's Lou Dobbs is leaving the network, the anchor and commentator said Wednesday.

"Over the past six months, it has become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us," Dobbs said during his 7 p.m. broadcast.

Dobbs, 64, said he discussed the issue with CNN President Jonathan Klein, who agreed to release him from his contract and "that will enable me to pursue new opportunities."

He said he was considering "a number of opportunities and directions."
