CO State Sen: Obama 'Is Flying U.S. Plane Right Into The Ground At Full Speed'
Colorado State Sen. Dave Schultheis (R-Colorado Springs) posted a tweet yesterday that called for a derailing of President Obama's agenda in a rather bold way. The blog Colorado Pols caught the statement from Schultheis's account.

"Don't for a second, think Obama wants what is best for U.S. He is flying the U.S. Plane right into the ground at full speed. Let's Roll," the tweet reads.

"Let's roll" were the final words of Todd Beamer, a passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93, one of the four flights hijacked on September 11 and the only one to crash before reaching its intended target. The flight was diverted to Washington, D.C. after it was hijacked, but crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers tried to thwart the hijackers.

This isn't the first time Sen. Schultheis has had his brash way with words. The staunch conservative lawmaker voted against a Colorado bill requiring pregnant women to undergo HIV testing to help reduce risks for the baby and offered this in the way of an explanation:

What I'm hoping is that yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that. The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years ... begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior. We can't keep people from being raped. We can't keep people from shooting each other. We can't keep people from jumping off bridges. People drink and drive, and they crash and kill people. Poor behavior has its consequences.

That last paragraph is one of the most nauseating screeds I have ever read.

2. Actually, for Colorado Springs, he's a liberal!
If that plane is going straight into the ground, let's hope he's on it.

7. Actually, he is not a liberal in Colorado Springs. There are many liberals here, he is not one of us
A Republican from his district has said Schultheis and those like him are too reactionary and has tossed his hat in the ring. Imagine that. Some are afraid if radicals like him continue to be elected in the uber conservative districts the GOP will not regain the majority crown in Colorado. Schultheis is not running again and has anointed (probably with Crisco oil) a successor. And there will be a primary.

A few Republicans are beginning to wake up and smell a distinct stench among their party mates. A chief contender for governor even dropped out of the primary because of party strong arming after the New York election last week. But the problem is that the chief contender is another D.C. anointee. That didn't work out so well last time around. A mention of that poor guy's name still brings a smile in some political circles.

The Colorado GOP is just beginning to figure out they many be in trouble, they just aren't in agreement where that trouble is coming from.

5. Uh, no, George Bush and Dick Cheney put that plane in a dive,
set it on auto-pilot and left the cockpit. 60 million people riding on the plane chose Barack Obama as the person to try to get control of it again. You're not helping, Mr. Schultheis.

6. Actually, Dick ordered it shot down, but not the one that crashed into the Pentagon, when he had the
chance.

"30 Miles Out, do your orders still stand?"

Transportation Secretary Mineta's Testimony to the 9/11 Commission:

"When I got to the White House, it was being evacuated. I met briefly with Richard Clark, a National Security Council staff member, who had no new information. Then the Secret Service escorted me down to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center, otherwise known as the PEOC."

***

I was made aware of it during the time that the airplane coming into the Pentagon. There was a young man who had come in and said to the vice president, "The plane is 50 miles out. The plane is 30 miles out." And when it got down to, "The plane is 10 miles out," the young man also said to the vice president, "Do the orders still stand?" And the vice president turned and whipped his neck around and said, "Of course the orders still stand. Have you heard anything to the contrary?"
