As U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra continues to question whether a breakdown in intelligence preceded the deadly Ft. Hood shootings, he has provoked his Democratic counterpart on the House Select Committee on Intelligence.
"I am disappointed that some have rushed to the news media with unfounded information in order to gain headlines," Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes of Texas said in a statement. "I hope that my colleagues will refrain from speculation, pray for those who were affected by this tragic incident, and let investigators do their work."
Hoekstra captured headlines and TV appearances this week with the questions he raised about whether signs were ignored that would have flagged alleged Ft. Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan as prone to violence.
Tuesday night, liberal MSNBC TV host Rachel Maddow suggested Hoekstra, a past critic of leaks on intelligence issues, had risked national security himself by telling the Washington Post about e-mail exchanges between Hasan and a radical Muslim cleric in Yemen.
