There is a boat going down fast with a large number of people aboard. It is in a busy harbor surrounded by many other boats:
A Party Cruise chartered by the health industry with most of Congress aboard. They are looking at the sinking boat through binoculars and saying, "Look! over there! People are in danger of drowning. We should help them!" Except right at that minute, another platter of cocktail weenies is being served, so they run back over to the buffet and forget about the sinking boat.
A number of large private yachts. The people on board them are saying "Look at those silly little people - why would they ever be in such a wreck of a boat? Those people are stupid for being in a boat like that in the first place. I bet they are all illegal aliens."
A bunch of still floating but not terribly seaworthy boats. The people on board them are saying "That must suck. Good thing our boat is still afloat." What they can't see is that they are headed towards a submerged coral reef and the hull under them is about to ripped to shreds.
Dennis Kucinich is on shore with a prototype of a great areo-dynamic, energy efficient boat very popular in Europe. While a crowd gathers and picks up a bunch of informational brochures, no one is actually helping him to launch it. Some in the crowd around Dennis yell, "Seen any UFOs lately Dennis?" and "Hey, is that one of those commie French boats?"
Finally, from out of the fog, as the water is reaching their knees, the sinking passengers see that there is someone finally coming to the rescue! It is a dinky little vessel springing leaks that looks like it will barely make it back to land. It has 2 oarsmen, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and it is flying the flag of the Vatican and has assorted right wing bumper stickers plastered all over it.
Here is your decision, do you accept the life-saving ride at hand or do you wait for a bigger and better boat?
