2008 FBI: Hassan Not A Terrorist (BBC)

The major, a 39-year-old US-born Muslim of Palestinian descent, was scrutinised by an FBI-led joint terrorism task force because of a series of e-mails between December 2008 and early 2009 with Mr al-Awlaki.

US officials said the content of the e-mail messages did not advocate or threaten violence, and was consistent with Maj Hasan's research for his job as an army psychiatrist, part of which involved post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from US combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

5. Terrorist definition:
terrorism, act of terrorism, terrorist act (the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear)

Not sure it fits him. Mass muderer seems to.

6. That's not the point of this thread.
His guilt or innocence of murder will be decided by a court in due course. What seems obvious though is that the hysterical accusations of him being a "terrorist" are ill-founded.

7. They're creating a profile and a back-story and they'll be wanting to have it both ways

when the final explanations come of what they will try to write off as a case of "failed intelligence" and "lack of information sharing between the agencies" while trying to explain/insist all along on the fact that they thought he was one, potentially, but did nothing. They will point to it and say the infrastructure isn't any better than it was-- and that they need MORE money and resources, MORE war on terrah, Obama isn't keeping us safe, bring back the tough neocon hardliners.

The most important thing is to implant the words "islamic terrorist" into the daily dialogue once again and remind everybody every day ALL DAY once again who really runs things in Washington- them. And they just BETTER get their money and their troops and their contracts as usual. The corp whore media absolutely will oblige them.

You don't recognize the smell?
